MICHELLE Obama's tribute to the transformational power of education has probably done more than any policy change to motivate the girls she met in London last week.
It wasn't just her message – that being smart was cool and the world needed capable girls to take the reins – it was her manner. Confident enough to ad lib; bold enough to defy convention and embrace members of the schoolgirl audience on her knees; s...

For each Westminister Parlimentary Seat!

A massive:

650 New Fulltime Undergraduates are produced in England

yet

A pathetic:

498 New Fulltime Undergraduates are produced in Scotland

For each Westminister Parlimentary Seat!

A tiny:

8 New Fulltime Undergraduates domiciled in England elected to study in Scotland

yet

A huge sum of:

30 New Fulltime Undergraduates domiciled in Scotland elected to study in England

'new'? I guess that means 'old', or 'earlier', or 'old-fashioned' when translated from leftie-speak. The left have been intent on destroying excellence. Why? To reduce differences? To sustain a loyal underclass? Who knows? It has never made any sense.

ACfE will not only reshape Scotland's education system it will destroy it. Whilst most teachers will welcome a focus on numeracy and literacy and the four capacities the rest of ACfE will be our downfall. If pupils follow airy fairy courses from S1 - S3 and then only make subject choices at the end of S3, how will they be able to sit exams in their chosen subjects in S4? Then they study our 'gold standard' highers is S5 after only 1 year studying for an as yet unknown qualification. As for the outcomes published last week the quality is poor.
