AFTER a long Monday taken up with travel and interviews, I found myself unwinding in a Marylebone eatery, swirling a delicious rosé Rioja round my glass while discussing metaphysics and life-after-death with two dear friends. One is an astrologer, the other a solicitor and then there's me, the writer. We're all over 40, all divorced, though only one of us is raising kids.
Those facts are probably incidental, but I'll leave them there to illustrate that we're old enough and experienced enough to have encountered death more than once. We are also old enough to be ruminating – increasingly often – on how long is left on ...
