Salmond's power-play needs money – and wind
IT CANNOT be denied that Scotland is on the brink of a revolution in generating renewable electricity. Yesterday, the Scottish Government gave the go-ahead for the construction of Europe's largest onshore wind farm, at Abington in South Lanarkshire. Scotland is uniquely favoured geographically – wedged between the Atlantic and the North Sea – to produce electricity from wind energy. The new wind farm will be more than twice as powerful as the current largest one, in Spain.
Alex Salmond, the First Minister, speaking at the World Renewable Energy Congress in Glasgow, used the occasion to restate his vision that Scotland could become a major player in green electricity. Mr Salmond's ambitions are very creditable, though...
