BUYING a timeshare holiday home can be fun, but it can bring surprises. Apart from the various potential scams, even if you buy one to your liking you never quite know who you will be sharing the pool with.
But residents of a proposed new development at Slains Castle, in Cruden Bay just outside Peterhead, could find their new holiday neighbours rather special indeed. Built in 1597 by the 9th Earl of Erroll, Slains is possibly the most dramatic castle...

You refer to watching out for timeshare scams, but buying timeshare nowadays is not riddled with pitfalls. Good, solid legislation adopted over 10 years ago - 16 in the UK - plus the formation of the European trade body, Organisation for Timeshare in Europe, with its strict code of conduct, has resulted in excellent consumer protection. Just be careful about buying into holiday schemes, such as discount holiday/travel clubs, that have no protection, such as a cooling off period.
