A YOUNG offenders charity was yesterday given £400,000 to run a mobile training camp to tackle the causes of crime.
The customised vehicle is operated by Venture Trust, a charity that gives less serious offenders a chance to get involved in confidence-building outdoor challenges.

Kenny MacAskill, the justice secretary, announced the funds as part of the Scottish Government's drive to strengthen community penalties. He said: "We need to show young men there is more to life than drink, drugs and criminality."

The mobile unit works as a "base camp" to support the outdoors component of the "chance for change" programme, as well as providing a training resource for offenders in the community.

The mobile unit is due to be used by the Lothians and Borders Community Justice Authority in a pilot scheme for people aged 14-18.

This is the waste of space, Kenny MacAskill, that doesn't want to gaol anyone under the age of 18, even if they are violent neds and thugs.

Now he's giving money to help ensure that they are confident and fit, violent neds and thugs.

A short spell in the army with full military discipline would provide many "confidence-building outdoor challenges" for young thugs and wasters.
