Palin repeats claim that Obama 'pals around with terrorists'

Published Date: 06 October 2008
John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin today repeated claims that Barack Obama is friends with a terrorist and represents the wrong type of change for America.
The attacks came as the McCain campaign tried to change the subject of the presidential race from the troubled US economy which has been disastrous for the Republicans in recent weeks.

Mrs Palin continued her attacks on the Democratic presidential nominee after a weekend in which she has repeatedly said Mr Obama sees America as so imperfect "that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country".

The accusations relate to the 47-year-old Illinois senator's association with 1960s radical Bill Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground whose members were blamed for several bombings when Mr Obama was a child.

Mr Obama has denounced Ayers' radical views and activities and there is no evidence they "pal around".

But speaking about Mr Obama at a rally in Clearwater in the battleground state of Florida today, Mrs Palin said: "I'm afraid this is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to work with a former domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country.

"This, ladies and gentlemen, has nothing to do with the kind of change that anyone can believe in: not my kids, not for your kids.

"What we believe in is what Ronald Reagan believed in, and that is that America is an exceptional nation.

"I'm just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way that you and I see America: as the greatest source for good in this world."

Her comments were slightly toned down from her incendiary remarks at the weekend, when she strongly suggested the two men were friends and referred to an alleged association between Mr Obama and terrorists plural.

Both Ayers and Mr Obama served on the board of the same Chicago charity and live near each other in Chicago. Ayers also held a meet-the-candidate event at his home for Mr Obama when the Democrat first ran for office in the mid-1990s, the event cited by Mrs Palin.

The attacks come after McCain adviser Greg Strimple predicted "a very aggressive last 30 days" of the campaign in a recent conference call with reporters.

"We are looking forward to turning a page on this financial crisis and getting back to discussing Mr Obama's aggressively liberal record and how he will be too risky for Americans," he said.

The economic crisis, which has dominated the presidential race in recent weeks, has seen Mr McCain plummet in the polls and Mr Obama gain a clear lead, especially in battleground states such as Florida.

Bill Burton, Mr Obama's spokesman, told CNN: "Every day we see a new false attack from the McCain campaign.

"It may be easy for the McCain campaign to not talk about the economic crisis, but it's something real that's happening in people's lives.

"Throughout the end of this campaign we're going to keep talking about the economy and make sure that voters know the real choice here when it comes to who can be a strong leader in this time of economic peril for the middle class.

"I think you're going to see our campaign continue to make the contrast with Senator McCain's campaign as to who's the better leader when it comes to the economy.

"Are there issues that relate to that that we think speak to Senator McCain and his past and his plans for the future? Sure.

"We just want to make sure that voters know the facts and are armed with the truth when they're making the decision as to who would be the best person to be the steward for our economy going forward."

The Obama campaign also released a television advert that said Mr McCain was "erratic in a crisis" and "out of touch on the economy", playing upon the 72-year-old Arizona senator's stumbling response to the US financial crisis and shifting positions as Congress and the White House worked out a 700 billion dollar (£397bn) rescue plan.

The Democrats also brought up Mr McCain's connections to Charles Keating, a convicted savings and loan owner whose actions two decades ago triggered a Senate ethics investigation that involved Mr McCain as one of the "Keating Five".

Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor said Mr McCain's involvement with Keating was "a window into McCain's economic past, present and future".

A short video, e-mailed to millions of Mr Obama's supporters, summarised a 13-minute "documentary" on the Obama campaign website.

Five senators helped Keating in his bid to keep federal regulators from taking action against him for questionable business practices.

The Senate ethics committee found Mr McCain broke no laws, but he acknowledged bad judgment in attending two meetings with regulators and Senate colleagues on Keating's behalf and has called it "the worst mistake of my life".

Keeps me awake at night to think that the woman has a chance to have nuclear access codes. Looking at the money she wanted for Alaskan "projects" that were as stupid as anything Dub-ya ever did proves to me she isn't the right one for the job.
McCain the terrorist and Palin the Angel of Death with PMS. What a mix.

Palin, the Parrot-in-Chief, repeats whatever is fed to her by her handlers. McCain and the Republican Party know very well that the claim about Obama being linked to a terrorist is unfounded but they are so desperate that they would do anything to turn their campaign around. If Palin wants a real link to un-patriotism, she doesn't have to look far. She herself is married to one. Her husband once belonged to and still friends with a Party that advocates Alaska's secession from the United States. McCain's pick of Palin as his VP is an insult to women across the country, particularly Hillary's supporters. If he thinks women will support anybody whose qualification is wearing a skirt, he's sadly mistaken. Palin's dumb, unqualified, and clearly out of her league. She could barely speak coherently when being asked questions that she hadn't been fed the answers. I think we've had enough of a dumb President running the country. Is there anything left that Bush hasn't destroyed?

Didn’t we hear enough about these subjects back in the spring? Does McCain honestly think that at this point we care? How is he going to fix the economy? Healthcare? There are bigger issues. Stop beating a dead horse and get to the point.

Turning the dirt in the garden does not make it more fertile. And if this is the McCain version of fertilizer it does indeed stink.

Poor Palin had an over exaggerated view of herself and now her political career is going up in smoke. Look at Geraldine Ferraro. I was young when she was given the nod for VP granted, but I don’t ever remember hearing from her again, until now.

Palin should have had the courage and conviction to say I am flattered but I don’t feel ready. Trusted that this opportunity would come again.

By the way were is Dick? Any time there has been a crisis at the white house Dick always showed up. We are well into this financial crisis and not a peep from the veep?

Listening to the vice president debate the other day with few preconception of the candidates beforehand, Palin came across as having an insufficient grasp of most of the issues at hand. Intellectually she makes Bush look good. It is abit scarey that she can command the position she does.

I disagree with Newman in #1 who said that McCain is a terrorist due to his vietnam war activities. the military was not targeting civilians in that case. But I think Newman makes an excellent point that US policy can be terroristic. When the US (& other nations) imposed economic sanctions on Iraq for about 12 years that was purposely done for the sake of killing children and elderly people. One million people, 90% of them under 5, died as a result. that was terrorism and many countries participated in that, not just the US. Iraq was willing to buy medicines & baby food from anyone willing to sell. Lots of nations refused to allow the trade, but it was a US-led policy. Today Gaza strip in Palestine is under seige for the sake of killing civilians. This is terrorism. and here's an article on that.

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2008/10/20081049616279452.html

But Adsulatta in #3 makes an excellent point that Palin's spiel is ridiculous. Myself and many others think that its been decided behind closed doors that Obama is to be the victor, and even McCain's own campaign managers give instructions to palin in support of this decision. In other words, they purposely ruin their own campaign in the final weeks to go along with the script. This is common in presidential races.

my question for my fellow Americans is 'why is an anti-american person like McCain even on the ballot?'. here's a web page showing a video depicting Conservative Republican leaders speaking out on Sen. John McCain's betrayal of American POW/MIAs and their families.

http://www.mccainbetrayspows.com/

this man John McCain was tortured like other American prisoners. But unlike others he gave propaganda interviews to his captors. Over 20 times these interviews were broadcast in North Vietnam or South Vietnam. The other prisoners did not perform as poorly as this, so why is McCain being raised up? I know the republican cheerleaders will tell me that mediocre or poor performance under stress does not mean that you're not qualified. I disagree. Out of respect to the other prisoners (some of whom died) we should not raise up a man who gave propaganda interviews. He said that America was NAZI. He said that America was committing war crimes. He said that America was losing the war and would give up. He gave militarilly valuable info to the enemy in that war that helped them to shoot down other US pilots. We will be the laughing stock of the world, especially the of communists, if we elect that man.

and then as a US Senator McCain went to great lengths to get all the records closed on American POW's, the evidence shows he purposely left some of them over there rather than allow the files to be examined. McCain had secrets in those files about McCain. that was his concern. and he betrayed his fellow Americans to keep those things secret.

In the name of the Americans who died under torture I say as loudly as I can THIS MAN IS UNFIT!!!.

#10 FTH22:

the reason for things going bad in America is because our country is under severe attack by evil. and it is succombing from within.

There is documentation that in 1950 we had the very best national school system in the world that was available for free to all citizens. There has been a steady effort over a long period to dumb down that system and the American public as well.

I would not think of the presidential candidates as being a product of our people or our 'democratic process'. These candidates are the candidates and are the final choices because the people who rule our nation have made it so.

that is one thing that the American experience has demonstrated. the whole democracy process where 'we the people' are supposed to rule has been shown to be a complete fraud. that is not how things work. You may think it works that way, or that it will work that way in your countries. but I tell you that the human being is flawed enough so that it will not work that way.

It was not going to be long before Palin made the biggest gaffe of all.

How idiotic is this woman, she has just destroyed her party and probably changed the political spectrum in America for eternity!

Bush, Bush Snr, Rummsfeld, Cheynne, Bin Laden and McCain must be shaking their heads in disbelief wondering what she is doing. Barak Obama on the otherhand, must be rubbing his hands in delight.

Speaking of terrorists, Obama will seize upon and expose the most obvious relationship between country and terrorist. Remember Bush Snr?

He is the guy who couldnt bring Sadam down. Man he wanted that guy so bad, America needed that guy out the way! Enter Bush Jnr with a probable remit to remove Saddam for obvious reasons. But you cant just attack Iraq was probably the word in the Oval Office! But we can set them up, was probably the response...

Boom! 9/11.......

Lets pretend we are going to go after the guy who did it...But who did it was probably the next question. Lets say it was Osama Bin Laden was probably the response. Get him on the phone was probably the next response.

Then Bush stands on the rubble of 9/11 and says he is going after Osama, then he fails to do so and goes after, you guessed it! Some 7 years later with all the money and technology, army personal and the most advanced weapons in the world, STILL NO OSAMA BIN LADEN!

Cmon Miss Palin, who are the people who are really pals with the terrorists?

if any of them - McCai, Palin, Biden or Obama - had any respect for the American people and their interests, then they'd be criticizing the war profiteers and calling for them to be jailed and the corrupt practices stopped. here is an article on that.

McCain has already passed the average life expectancy for white men in the USA, so there is a reasonably strong chance of him snuffing it in office and this bimbat taking office. This can only speed the process of the decline of US power.

More likely a heart attack. Maybe during the next "Debate".

She is from the most evil camp in the history of world politics.
