What a joke! Heaven forbid anyone in the west write a single positive thing about China. And they say the western media is free. Ha ha ha ha. Corporate lackeys.

Oh, by the way... Beijing, blue skies.

COHRE are a bunch of liars. In their junk statistics EVERY SINGLE PERSON who has been rehoused in Beijing since the year 2000 is classified as having been "forcibly evicted from their homes because of The Olympics". They also claim that "(up to) one third of all evictees (in some areas)(may) have suffered economic loss as a result of their removal". Naturally, by the time this sort of stuff makes it into the international press all the caveats have disappeared - the 'up to', 'in some areas', and 'may' - leaving "one third of all evictees have suffered economic loss as a result of their removal".

I wrote to COHRE three months ago asking for details of the statistical samples on which their claims are based - a reasonable enough request, and not one that should have been too difficult to fulfill. They were going to get back to me... I'm still waiting guys.

Incidentally, this 'report' they have just released looks like a rehash of exactly the one they released last year. But right on the Olympic button it's timed to get maximum publicity for them, and win them a few more millions in grants from sympathetic governments and NGOs. All well and good - helps to pay their fat salaries, I suppose, as they sit in their plush offices in the centre of one of the most expensive cities in the world 'advocating' on behalf of the unfortunate poor. Good career, 'advocating' - saves you having to do anything useful or complicated, like providing homes for poor people in third world countries...

#1 Mushy Marrow (The Rabid Rabbit).

Your gangster government just can't resist censorship, including on the Internet. The fact that you are allowed to post on a Western site, with apparent impunity, highlights the fact that you are an employee of the gangster government and a political cadre.

How can you continue to deny any censorship of the Internet when you gangster government has a policy entitled: The Golden Shield Project, a.k.a. The Great Firewall of China. It is, of course to control, monitor and censor all Internet traffic originating in China. See:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/web/chinese-netizens-rail-against-great-firewall/2008/08/01/1217097503184.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap2

Incidentally, you can find a list of sites blocked by the Chinese gangster government at:

http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/filtering/china/China-highlights.html

There is even an official list of words censored by the gangster government. This can be found at:

http://chinadigitaltimes.net/2004/08/the-words-you-never-see-in-chinese-cyberspace/

So tell me again that your gangster government does not totally control Internet access; and tell me how you do not appear to be censored.

#4 Puling Prince Roman,
Looks like you got your sh!t together, that's refreshing to see. You can see how these agencies milk the public for funding, much like Amnesty International does. COHRE at each of its sites has a donation box via paypal, need I say more?
Did some people get displaced, yes they did. They were also offered compensation, but as is the case with the human species, greed dictated that they ask for more, and thus missed the boat. This scenario plays out all over the world everyday, but the Olympics are a great vehicle to hijack and highlight these things, and call it human rights abuse.
Well it's too late to pull the plug on the Olympics now, so let's just sit back and and enjoy them.
Am I a fan, no, by no means, but since the money has been spent, it's useless crying over spilt milk.
Let's hope for a very successful and uneventful games, Go Beijing.

#5 Guga II,
Hey buddy, talking about censorship.
If you look closely, my ID is slightly different than before, and that's because the Scotsman had me banned yet again for commenting. Now you know that I came onboard with postmark 54, and since have had four variations of postmark55, all because my comments get deleted and eventually banned. When it first happened, it p!ssed me off, but it has become routine, and I shrug it off now. The point is however that your western press censors me, and I keep my language clean and I don't display any racism. So why am I being banned? I don't display any of the criteria that calls for deletions or an outright ban, but it happens time and time again. So Guga ll old pal, please don't talk about China's censorship habits, they pale with the western ones. No hard feelings to you buddy, I know you have nothing to do with it, I'm just pointing out a fact to you, since you brought up censorship in China.

PS. Dragonhead, Bugsy, Dragon's 'tale' and Linus all were banned, and Dragonhead is the only one that came back from those four, but I won't reveal under what 'handle' he is now posting, you'll have to figure that one out for yourself.
13

Puling Prince Roman,

China 02/08/2008 06:24:48
You said it postmarkfiftyfive.

The new millionaires' club = The 'Caring' Industry.

And boy, is that one dog-eat-dog industry. You have to fight tooth and claw with all the other 'carers' for every penny of your revenues.

"One and a half million people rehoused in Beijing in last eight years" = yawnfest = international media interest: zero = revenue generating potential: nil

"ONE AND A HALF MILLION IN FORCED EVICTIONS FOR OLYMPICS!" = Gold Mine! = International media interest; stratospheric! = Revenue generating potential: millions!

Ker-Ching! These COHRE guys certainly have their act together.

On the Olympics, I agree with you. But I queued up for tickets last week for my wife and son for the volleyball. We don't even have any idea who's playing, but they're chuffed to the guttie to be going to the Olympics.

God forbid they release you from there, you're a danger to yourself and all within reach of you.
As far as the USSR goes, they're alive and well, just changed their name. China has been around 5000+ years, and we too will survive, in one form or another, under different names.
Now the USA on the other hand, is about to see the wheels come off completely, and deservingly so. First Madman Bush, and you're now seriously considering giving McCain a try at it. Do that and bye bye America as the world knows it now, and you finally will get your just rewards.
Quit waging your wars all over the world in the name of your screwed up version of Democracy, we don't want any part of it, and will bring you to your knees PDQ.
So Tommy, you nutjob, go comment on something you're familiar with, oh wait a minute, that will leave you with nothing to say.

#13 Puling Prince Roman,
I'm happy you survived the lineup in your bid to get the tickets, by all accounts it was a zoo, to say the least.
I hope your wife and son enjoy the volleyball game you risked your life for, noble of you indeed. It is also a once in a lifetime event, so I don't condemn you one bit for buying the tickets. These will be China's first AND last games, and I couldn't be happier for you in that you succeeded securing a couple of tickets. I'm also happy that we will never have to endure this again, for the west has done everything to use these games to give us yet another black eye, along with the one the one the Dalai Lama tried to give us.
Thanks for coming on board here to fight side by side along with Mashimaro and myself, the help is greatly appreciated.
May your family be safe in enjoying the games.

#14 No worries. I came in with a late blindside run and only had to queue two hours. But I know people who queued for more than 24, and have read reports of others queueing for two days.

All the people I waited with were happy and excited. They have no idea of the torrent of bile that's going to pour down of them from the Western Media once the Games get under way.

I got banned again, second time today, really don't know why.
It's sure to see you come onboard with the fighting spirit though, we can now triple tag team them, they won't know what hit them.
It's amazing you got your tickets in just a couple of hours, shows your fighting spirit.
As far as ammo goes, my supply is unlimited, as are my names so that I can keep posting here to defend our great country.

Nothing personal against you, I've read many of your posts, and you appear fairly level headed most of the time, same can't be said for your Administration. Mashimaro is an individual I hold in high regards, he's a man of honour, well educated, and you can see that his English skills are superb as well. I don't agree with everything he says, but I do agree with a full 99% of his comments, he's got things figured out, in short, his head's on straight. He, like me, comes to the defence of our country called China, and that is an honourable thing to do. He isn't blind to some of the injustices carried out here, and will freely tell you so. He knows China better than anybody else on this forum, I respect him for that, and I learn from what input he brings to the table.
Anyways double dog, a good day to you as well.

I am sure Guga, others and I would welcome the opportunity to be able to make a comment in any of the media outlets in China. Can you arrange that?

We are celebrating the Olympics by flying the Tibetan flag and ignoring the propaganda stunts of the gangsters and thugs at the opening and, if they last that long, the closing ceremonies.

"BIG OLYMPIC SPEND, BUT LITTLE DEBATE
With total spending expected to exceed $40bn (£20bn), Beijing's Olympic Games may be the most expensive in history.
China has spent the money on new stadiums, infrastructure projects and cleaning up the capital's polluted environment.
In other host cities, this high cost would have led to heated public debate, but in China there has been little controversy.
In a country where information is not always accessible, many people seem not to know how much is being spent".
"Beijing resident Wang Na does not know what the Olympic bill will be.
And the 26-year-old added: "It's worth it because this is an opportunity for the world to understand China and for us to entertain them."".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7523235.stm

It is an opportunity for the World to understand China and for us to entertain them.......it might be "entertaining" right enough.

If you can't comment on what's happening in China, in our newspapers, I'm sorry, but that's out of my hands. Can I arrange for you and Guga ll and others to have that opportunity, no , I can't.
But can you honestly see a reason for the Scotsman banning me from commenting in their comments section?
If you people over there don't agree with my opinions, that's fine, Im' a big boy and can handle personal insults, I can also dish them out. It's a two way street. But banning me from commenting is the worst form of censorship, and you know it. Everytime one of you over there insults us, I'll come out swinging, and if I get banned, I don't care. I can play their game, and I've learned to duck under the punches of the Scotsman, and I'll be back time and again.
If the Scotsman doesn't want to hear what I have to say, they should not have a comments section for us here in China, but they do, and I'll use it. It's as plain and simple as that.

Consider it done, MacGillicudy. All you and Guga have to do is go to www.china.org.cn. It's one of the biggest web-based news and information providers in China, and it has an extensive section in English. You can post on all news or features articles (unlike the UK media), and you don't have to pre-register to post, so the site doesn't get your email address (unlike the UK media). Happy posting!

Oh and see that great big Tibetan flag you're going to be waving - why not put a big banner under it saying: "Return the Tibetans to the feudal theocracy! Give them back the serfdom that they so deeply desire!"

I am well aware that the Hootsmon has banned you on a number of occasions, but they have also banned me before now. I know that they have removed some of your comments, but they have removed plenty of mine.

However, if you read all the assorted comments in the Hootsmon, you will have seen that I am continually criticising the Hootsmon for letting its Pravda Branch and Xinhua Branch censors get out of control. I suggested yesterday that they follow your gangster government and publish a list of forbidden topics and forbidden words. That way we would be able to gauge the extent of their censorship. However, my suggestion was also removed by their Pravda Branch and Xinhua Branch censors.

The main problem with the Hootsmon is that it is foreign owned, foreign controlled, and staffed mainly by foreigners.

CNN is doing exactly the same thing. I don't know if you ever watch it, but you can see the little capitalist puppets playing for their masters, showing the Chinese people as being "backward" "old" and struggling to speak Engrish.
The biased rubbish they spout is quite sad in view that they hold themselves up as a paragon of a "free press" But being in the media I can tell you exactly how it's going down, Editors are going "Oh god, I have to justify my expenses... dig the dirty boys".

#30 Mushy Marrow (The Rabid Rabbit).

You really do talk rubbish, and you keep coming up with this garbage to try and take attention away from your employers, the Chinese gangster government.

We are well aware that since the overthrow of the Kuomintang that such things as starvation have been eliminated in China. However, we are also fully aware that the ordinary Chinese people do not live in luxury and opulence as is the case with your Politburo members. Mousey Dung, for example, lived like an Emperor of China, complete with every luxury imaginable, including a steady supply of young girls for his entertainment.

In addition, we do not think of the Chinese people as backward; far from it. However, we do think that the repressive gangster regime is holding back the Chinese people. As I told you the other day, Sun Yat Sen would be spinning in his grave if he knew what people like Mousey Dung and your gangster government had done to his country.

We are also well aware that the Western system is very far from perfect, and, apart from a number of deluded people, we do not try and deny it. So why do you come out with the garbage you do? Your gangster government is as even worse than the terrorists and war criminals Bush and Broon; why deny it? We also don't have a free press, but the censorship of the Hootsmon is fairly mild in comparison with the heavy handed censorship of your gangster government. Again, why deny it?

In any event, the greater majority of us are not criticising the Chinese people, only your gangster government and its paid cadres and propagandists like yourself. Exactly the same way we criticise the London so-called government and their lackeys and running dogs.

What was the reason you were banned? Do you know? I have no idea as to why they banned me, but they have gone as far as having all my posts removed, just like what happened to Dragonhead, it's as if he never existed. And it's as if I never existed. So go figure eh. That does not happen here in China, they will at least let you have your say. The Scotsman won't even let me have that, the only reason I can is because I keep changing my name, and their machine is only a machine, and doesn't catch it. But as soon as they're on to me, they will surely pull the plug on me again. And I will keep showing up like a bad penny, time and time again. So I suggest that you concentrate on cleaning up your country, and I will attempt to do the same with mine, and I do it without voting.

Anyways, I know for a fact that neither I nor Mashimaro ever have any posts deleted, it's not our style, and I can see that 'Let's have the truth' is honourable as well, and would not ever do that either. So you're barking up the tree and pointing your craggy fingers at the wrong people. I do believe you though when you had the gall to complain about me getting the upper hand on you, that happens all the time, for you lack thought process. Sorry to be so harsh and to the point, but it's the truth. There should also be guidelines as to what language is tolerated, eventhough they will automatically disallow certain words. I also have not displayed racism, a blatant infraction of the code of ethics, so on those grounds they can't ban me either. If a mere complaint from someone like you can have me banned for the simple reason that you don't like me, well that shows how unprofessional the Scotsman is. You can sure dish it out Horrible, but you can't take it. You have a lot of personal problems you need to sort out, and if you can't handle it when I outclass you, well maybe you should learn to keep your mouth shut.

#49 Freedom4everyone,
I can do here in China as I please, do it everyday. But what I do is follow and obey the laws, just like any one should do if they had half a brain in their head. I'm a guest in China, since I am Canadian. In Canada, you are expected to uphold and obey the law as well, I'm sure that applies to where you live.
Are you suggesting that China is the only country run by people with self interests, if you are, you must have fallen asleep in the sun.
About freedom in China, I'm afforded much more freedom than I was ever in Canada, and not once has anyone checked me for ID, except for the first night here when I registered at a hotel in Shanghai, and that was strictly for them to protect their interests, and not to hassle me. The cops have never bothered me in the nearly three years I've lived here, so yes, we have freedom here.

Now if you have something to say about the article here, please do so, don't bother me about how you feel about me, I'm not here to please you.
Live up to the name you chose for yourself, don't get on my case about what you think about how I should think. Remember, freedom4everyone.

If they are least bothered of what we democratic countries think about them, i guess they wouldnt be here on all these websites, hell bent in defending and making some of these websites their homepage.

I guess its a situation beyond repair.
I really feel sad for people who cannot stand against the wrong and always live in fear.

Some just dont get it! Do they?

Who is talking about breaking law. Its the power to question the politician who make the laws, its the power to decide for yourself, its the power to experience and do things the way you want to.

#55 Freedom4everyone,
Go figure, now I have to explain everything to you. If you want to keep your freedom, play by the rules, obey the law. If you don't want to have freedom, break the law, don't follow the rules. It's all the same to me what you choose to do, I could care less.

China is wasting international goodwill with an Olympic security operation that makes the country look like a police state, according to the artist behind Beijing's spectacular new stadium.

Ai Weiwei, one of China's most influential intellectuals, says the government is using the "terrorist threat" as an excuse to strengthen its power.

"With the use of modern technology, the control is tighter than China ever had before," he told the Guardian. "This is an exercise of state power. People's rights are heavily violated. Is this an Olympics or some kind of warfare?"

Since the completion of the landmark "Bird's Nest" stadium, Ai has distanced himself from the state and the Olympics, refusing to attend the opening ceremony and becoming an increasingly outspoken advocate of political reform.

He feels China is spoiling the atmosphere of the games with an overzealous security operation. According to domestic media, the authorities have mobilised 100,000 police, installed 300,000 surveillance cameras, and sited anti-aircraft missiles next to the stadium. There are three rings of checkpoints on roads into the city, and ID inspections have been stepped up.

"I think it is a shame, it's a loss," said Ai. "The original idea was to invite the international community to China, share the same values, celebrate humanity and goodwill, to speak about peace and social harmony. But today, you see police everywhere; in every neighbourhood there is tight security, not just in Beijing, but everywhere in China. People really live in a police state."

A COLD war mentality has gripped the Beijing Games with revelations Britain's Olympic officials are using throwaway phones to foil Chinese spies.
British Games officials have been told to leave their mobile phones at home and instead use pay-as-you-go handsets that should be thrown away when the Games are over.

Britain's MI6 has told Olympic administrators China has developed the capacity to eavesdrop on their mobile phone conversations while they are here.

Britain's MI6 intelligence agency has provided its Olympic administrators with a secret report into China's spying capabilities.

It has warned them the Chinese will go to extraordinary lengths to obtain information.

"HERE"? If you are using the English language correctly you are posting from China or MI6 is in China? Do you know something the Chinese government would like to know?

Anyway, what's so new about the technology allowing the tapping of mobile 'phones? The US administration taps the mobile 'phones of everyone on the planet.

#49 You are so full of nonsense. You know nothing about China. People make comments about officials here all the time. And nothing happens to them. In fact because they do some officials have been punished for their misdeeds.

What amazes me about the west is that you all bleat on about "freedom" and then someone here happily goes around banning people, even though what they are saying is not racist or offensive or foul. I find that quite pathetic.

Hey Mashimaro,
Take a look at freedom4everyone's post at #51, he is somehow under the impression that the Scotsman is a US based paper, when I pointed it out to him, he hit the road.

"I really pity those brainwashed chinese, being soo insecure, desperately trying to populate US based news sites, with their defending views."

Of course that post of mine was deleted, as well as most of mine.

#55 You might want that in your country. We have a different set of needs. We would rather see things continue on a steady road to improvement than disintegrate into something like Africa. China was the world's first meritocracy and many elements of that system still carry over to today. This is the way we do things, and just because it is not your way does not mean that you should cat paw around in our business.

Right so in other words China should just ignore the terrorist threat and let the islamist blow beijing to pieces. Please, show me a country that does this. Show me a country that does not increase security in the threat of terrorism - er 9/11, 7/7... need I say more? We've had two bomb blasts and one attempt at insurrection in the last few months. What would you like us to do? Sit back and say "Oooh, let's no upset their sense of freedom. Let them exercise their rights"... who do you think we are, British?

I will agree with him about the "fun" part. The Games are seriously lacking a sense of humour. But I think we can look back at terrorism in general and blame that.
As far as security cameras goes - you in Britain are complaining bout us putting up a few cams? Nuuu uuuh! POT, KETTLE, BLACK

Date: 02/08/2008
The sixth day of the TYC led Indefinite Fast for Tibet without food and water started as a calm morning, with the rising sun, growing heat and humidity taking its effect on the hunger strikers. The early morning weight check showed that they have lost an average of over 10 kgs as they continue their fast without not only food but also not a single drop of water. more…

For an indication of the tactics of Communist Chinese trolls see:
"NEWBIE'S GUIDE TO PRO-CHINA INTERNET TROLLS"

The guide needs a re-write in light of recent developments but it does give an idea of the tactics used by these individuals on the Internet.

Isn't it ironic that we are browbeating the Chinese for censoring the internet and here on the Scotsman in the land of free people we have censorship of the most repressive kind alive and well.
Scotsman editors - please no articles about censorship in China, the hypocricy is too much.
How sad.
