FORMER football star Frank McAvennie was arrested after a disturbance in a bar, it was reported today.

The ex-Scotland, Celtic and West Ham United striker was charged over the incident at a pub in Douglas on the Isle of Man on Saturday.

Glasgow-born McAvennie, 48, who now lives in the Newcastle area, had been due to take part in a Manchester United versus Liverpool Legends match at The Bowl.

He will appear in court in Douglas next month charged with affray and disorderly conduct.

A 23-year-old man was also arrested.

Isle of Man Constabulary said in a statement: "A 48-year-old man from Newcastle was arrested in the early hours of Saturday July 5 following a disturbance in a bar in Douglas.

"He has been released on bail and is due to appear at the High Bailiff's Court in Douglas on Tuesday August 19.

"A 23-year-old local man who was arrested in connection with the same incident has also been charged with affray and will appear before the same court."
