IT HAD almost all the elements of a modern fairy-tale wedding.
But unfortunately Wayne Rooney couldn't fix the weather for his bride Coleen McLoughlin when they married on the Italian Riviera yesterday.

With a ridiculous price tag, an army of security guards, a lucrative magazine deal and boy-band Westlife providing the music, the couple certainly weren't going for low-key.

But, as a downpour lashed the coast yesterday, the bride will no doubt have taken comfort in the Italian saying that translates as "a wet bride is a lucky bride".

With its spectacular views overlooking the Mediterranean, the 17th century palace, Villa Durazzo, was a far cry from the chip shop in Croxteth where the couple's love affair supposedly began.

The childhood sweethearts became Mr and Mrs Rooney beneath a Louis XVI chandelier in the Salone Degli Stucchi at the Villa Durazzo, in the resort of Santa Margherita Ligure, surrounded by about 15 of their closest family and friends.

The bride, forced to shelter under a large black umbrella for much of the morning, wore a short low-cut cream-white dress said to have cost £200,000. The Manchester United and England star sported a beige suit without a tie.

Gianni Costa, the deputy mayor of Santa Margherita who conducted the 20-minute ceremony, said: "The bride looked lovely in white, and the groom wore a brown suit with no tie. No rings were exchanged, and the ceremony was very simple yet very beautiful."

The couple and their wedding party had arrived in cars with tinted windows to prevent anyone ruining the exclusive magazine deal they had lined up.

The couple, both aged 22, were then given a police escort to La Cervara – a medieval abbey that has hosted three popes and imprisoned a French king in its 650-year history – for the reception, which was planned to climax with a spectacular fireworks display.

The reported £5 million cost of the wedding is being offset by a deal with OK! magazine that is said to be worth half that amount.

Unsurprisingly, burly security guards were on hand at the villa to keep out the media. As the couple left, about a dozen paparazzi took off after them on motorbikes.

About 20 reporters, cameramen and photographers gathered at the entrance to the narrow private lane leading up the steep hill towards La Cervara, hoping for a glimpse of guests arriving for the reception.

Some photographers are thought to have buried themselves in dense undergrowth surrounding the abbey, hoping to snap the celebration on long lenses. One was even seen wearing camouflage gear.

McLoughlin enjoyed a pre-wedding trip to Miami, a £50,000 lunch, dinner and pampering session at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester for 24 guests, including the two mothers.

Rooney's £250,000 stag do took place in Ibiza, where he hired a luxury villa.

The couple, who live in a multi-million-pound Cheshire mansion, complete with swimming pool and gym, are said to be worth £35 million.

McLoughlin, who left school with ten GCSEs but no A-Levels, is the face of Asda, has released her own exercise video and perfume, has a magazine column, and a TV show and is worth £6 million in her own right.

IN NUMBERS

£2,500,000

The sum reportedly paid to the couple by OK! magazine for exclusive access to the wedding day. A proportion reportedly will be given to charity.

50

Well what can one say,? the usual, 'Good Luck'!

But for me, 'Money is not Love' I am NOT saying the couple aren't in Love but,..

For me and my DYW(darling young wife) our Wedding cost very little, the only 'Flashy' going-ons!, was the Bride, who looked the part as it should be.

Now a 'cuddly night-in', a Bottle of the old Wine, does us just fine, at times!

Na Keep your Money, waste it if you want!,...

Money Don't Buy Love!

Whereas my 'smoochy kissing' keeps us Love Birds going, on, and on, and on, and on......:***** :DD

Tubby should be hiding out in a bedsit in Manchester, lying on the floor in the fetal position, clutching his Teddy for missing out on Euro. Not holding a p@#*s-up wedding.
Go Scotland Go....err.

Do tell, Charles, is all that 'smoochie-kissing' that you do with DYW accomplished with your false teeth in or out of your mouth and as you are, obviously, an auld geek (as B.W.said)how much drooling do you do, which DYW is called upon to wipe up when you get it all over her sweet mouth?
I'd be willing to bet that your DYW needs that bottle of wine, before your slobbery smooching starts!!
I just can't imagine that any DYW would want an auld geek slobbering all over her...she must feel that she is being kissed by her Grandfather! ;-D

*sighs*

I see Charles Linskaill is raving and off his meds again.

I am never offended by the old boy, because I know at his ripe old age, the dearth of good braincells are what causes his senility. Poor old git. He's really quite nice according to DYW. And she's an angel for putting up with him. He doesn't drool too much apparently, Haggis. Thank heavens for small mercies I say!

He just gets extremely jealous of Youth and Beauty and goes off on one of ghis rants ... but come on ... what else do you expect from a 94 year-old codger! :)

Just as-well I got someone that appreciates. ?????

This story shouldn't even be given column inches. The amount of money spent is absolutely obscene.

Take this couple to a childrens' hospital or third world country and tell them what that amount of money could do to actually help people. I'm sure they could still have had an amazing time at a tiny fraction of the price, donated a major amount of dosh and felt genuinely good about themselves, spending money on the truly needy - not the truly greedy.

11...Aaaaah come on, this is the modern world with the modern celebs....he kicks or throws a baw...makes obscence amounts of money which she spends on the latest 'designer' tat...he then sh*gs aboot an gets a kick in the baws....'es reeled back in and they smile lovingly fir the cameras....

...its like the neds that wear gold sovereigns on every finger....heavy chains around their necks...knuckleduster rings with their names on...etc etc etc....designer clothes and accessories with the name displayed in big bold letters....."Look at me I'm ritch"...."No you aint and you've got vereee bad taste doll"....

...This young couple are ritch but their ridiculous spending is a symptom of their insecurity.....its all about..

...'Keeping up with the Beckhams'..!

I'm sure you wouldn't end it all, Charles. B.W., and I know you enjoy our banter and a wee bit of poking fun at you makes your day for you, otherwise all that time you spend dreaming about a DYW and wishing you had one of that variety, would go to waste.
It must be boring in that Old Folks Home, where you live and it is obviously apparent that the staff there don't give you enough attention and is why you had to invent your DYW!!
You should know by now that B.W. and I think the world of you and you should be proud of the fact that you are still sharp as a tack at 94-years-of-age.
Cheers,

#12 Cankers - you are, of course, spot on.

I still don't understand it though. People who give a sh*t about the real stuff going on in the world seem to be in the minority. Very sad.

15...Basic human nature I think...money interests just about everyone...the media is saturated with digitally altered (and sometimes surgically) images of 'stars' or 'celebs' that people love to pour over...look at all the magazines (basically the same mag) dedicated to celeb gossip...who is wearing what, carrying what breed of dog and which token drug addict superstar pal hanging on their arm...will they be at their wedding and do we really give a shoite?...fantasy stuff..but then it has always been like that...except there is more of it now....fantasy and glamour stuff...people love it...mind you I aint surprised...with all the wars, tragedies and atrocities that the media inundates us with on a daily basis, some do want to turn the other cheek and think 'Not my problem'....

Good Morning, Charles. It is 7.AM here in this part of Canada. The weather is lousey, rain, rain and even more rain...just what it used to be like living in Scotland, except we get Warmer Summers and Darned colder Winters than you, but this spring it has been the wet stuff you don't have to shovel. There's been so much rain that I now have gills behind my ears and my feet are webbed. About 15 more minutes from now I must go, meet a friend, and have a coffee and chat about anything and everything that comes to mind, but I won't mention your name, or B.W.'s. Conversations like we have here in this rag wouldn't be appreciated by anyone except people of like kind.
Have a good day, Charles, and regards to your DYW. Did she give you your Rubber Ducky to play with while she bathed you?
Cheers to B.W. and your sweet insignificant self.
