Published Date: 10 August 2008
AMERICAN law enforcement agencies fear Barack Obama will be the target of a violent attack by white supremacists at the Democratic convention in Denver this month.
Ever since the Senator for Illinois emerged as the likely Democratic presidential candidate, neo-Nazis, the Ku Klux Klan and similar groups have been making racist threats.

In an interview on Fox News, Railton Loy, Grand Wizard of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan International, said of Obama's presidential campaign: "I'm not going to have to worry about him, because somebody else down south is going to take him out... If that man is elected president, he'll be shot sure as hell. The hate would be so deep down south."

Meanwhile, websites and blogs have been buzzing with racist posts.

"Obama will die, KKK forever," says a post by "Rodney" on a blog run by a person identified only as Strider333. "The KKK or someone WILL assassinate Obama! If we get a N***** President all you N*****'s (sic] will think you've won and that the WHITE people will have to bow to you F*** THAT."

John W Hickenlooper, the Democrat Mayor of Denver, confirmed that he was aware of threats against Obama from white supremacists and other racist groups.

He added that the Denver Police Department was working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Secret Service. He said: "We are looking at every possibility and making sure that we have prepared for every conceivable contingency. If someone is threatening violence we will go to great lengths to deal with that."

The federal government is providing Denver – and St Paul, Minnesota, where the Republicans are staging their convention at the start of next month – with $50m (£26m) each to cover the security costs of staging the conventions.

The Denver Police Department will nearly double in size, bringing in an additional 1,500 police officers from communities throughout Colorado and beyond. National Guard specialists trained to deal with biological, chemical, nuclear and radiological weapons will also be available.

Keen to take advantage of an unprecedented level of media attention – 16,000 journalists are expected – protesters are preparing to flock to Denver in their tens of thousands.

They will include everyone from environmental to health groups and those championing the rights of unborn children to Hillary Clinton supporters, as well as more sinister groups.

Obama's decision to accept his party's nomination not at the convention's Pepsi Centre but at the 75,000-seat Invesco Field, home to the Denver Broncos, has created another headache for the Secret Service. They have had to work out plans to secure the open-air stadium, which is adjacent to a major highway. According to officials, it will almost certainly be closed during Obama's speech.

Mark Potok, an expert on the radical right at the Southern Poverty Law enter in Montgomery, Alabama, said: "People on these racist and white supremacist websites are being quite careful because they know that if they make a threat they will very likely get a visit from the Secret Service.

"The scary thing out there is the lone wolf phenomenon. There are enough crazy people in this movement that it is possible one of them will decide today is the day to kick off the Aryan revolution."

A survey by the centre, which tracks hate groups and handles legal cases against white supremacist organisations, found that the number of racist groups in America has soared in recent years, from 602 in 2000 to 844 in 2006.

It is not just the security forces who fear a racially motivated attack on the Democratic presidential candidate. An ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 59% of Americans (and 83% of African-Americans) are concerned "that someone might attempt to physically harm Barack Obama".

On Thursday, Raymond Hunter Geisel, 22, appeared in court in Miami after allegedly threatening to assassinate Obama. He was in a training class when he allegedly referred to Obama with a racial epithet before adding: "If (Obama] gets elected, I'll assassinate him myself."

According to court documents, Geisel said in an interview with a Secret Service agent, that "if he wanted to kill Senator Obama he simply would shoot him with a sniper rifle, but then he claimed that he was just joking".

A search of Geisel's car and hotel room in Miami uncovered a loaded 9mm handgun, knives, dozens of rounds of ammunition including armour-piercing types, body armour, military-style fatigues and a machete.

After the assassination of high-profile black leaders such as Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, violent attack is of clear concern to black politicians. Colin Powell, former secretary of state, has said his decision not to stand for the presidency in 1996 was largely due to his wife's fear that he might be shot.

Obama was placed under Secret Service protection in May 2007, the earliest ever for a candidate for the presidency.

Obama's Secret Service detail has recently been increased to a level which rivals that of President George Bush, far exceeding the level of protection afforded to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Whenever the Illinois senator holds an event or makes an appearance, a dozen Secret Service agents lead bomb-sniffing dogs through event venues.

The Obama campaign declined to comment on specific threats to the candidate.

The only thing missing is a 125% mortgage from RBS.

While I acknowledge your concerns, having visited your website (and lived in your country), the history of KKK actions is lawless and murderous. Europe has serious concerns about religiously-driven aliens, but doesn't randomly brutalise and routinely hang innocent people because they have different coloured skin. There's the difference.

As for dressing up in wizard garb ... wow, childish games! The great escape from justice. It can never, however, mask the wickedness of your predecessors.

Yep. I certainly condemn it. And condemn it and condemn it to hell. That enough for you? It still doesn't get your unpleasant organisation off the hook.

This story is a nice diversion from the John Edwards scandal.

Oprah had his wife on the show promoting them as wholesome family orientated american Democrats.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

John Edwards was having an affair with an ex-druggie while his wife has terminal cancer.

BTW
1) Alex Salmonds friend George Galloway said that Tony Blair was a "legitimate" target for assassination.

I don't remember any 'outrage' being expressed by Salmond over that comment - in fact he followed up with personal remarks about Tony Blairs family.

Obviously some SNP supporters are suffering from memory loss.

2) The lefties cheered when the movie DEATH OF A PRESIDENT was released. A story about George Bush being assassinated. The film got an award at the Toronto Film Festival BUT WAS A TOTAL FAILURE AT THE BOX OFFICE!

Mmm well I see the Middle Eastern contingent is up to his usual standard - turning a discussion about the good old US of A into a Alex Salmond bashing session. Well sorry mate you just make yourself sound even nuttier than usual. As for the article I do not think, and never will think, that Obama is smart enough to be the President and it has nothing to do with his colour. He comes across as being VERY inexperienced and looks more and more like a puppet every time I see him speak about anything - trying desperately not to upset anyone in America. Not too keen on McCain either but at least he speaks his mind.

The problem with white supremacy is well demonstrated in a number of European wars, where white versus white, locked into each one’s juggler, as they fall into a white heated cauldron of eternal hate.
The USA is a good example of European tradition—the viciousness of the civil war, never ending and not enough. The expansionist US/Spanish and Mexican wars; the illusion of isolationism whilst bear bating and funding before getting into the affray.
White supremacy,, which white??

Right now the price of gasoline is a big deal. Loss of Jobs and getting out of Iraq. So are you people just arguing to argue or what. The KKK? Almost always back page news if it even makes the paper at all. For the most part America doesn't even care about them. I would say none at all but as you have pointed out there is that miniscule percentage out there. So please don't lump everyone who is not voting for Mr Obama as a racist. That is just a plain ignorant comment that is untrue. I usually respect everyones comments and I enjoy hearing differing points of view, I just had to chime in on this one. Cheers

Obama is the right man for the job and the guy who can change America from the most detested nation on the planet to one of the most admired..
American armies have occupied territories in far off places for the last 100 years. They are also the only nation in the history of mankind to have used an Atom bomb not once, but twice.
Evil does begin to describe America, and that evil has manifested in the minds of the people they have tormented to the point that evil is now fighting evil..
Obama will change that, he is not the sort a bomb bomb, murder murder McCain. He is not a ruthless hate monger like Bush, nor is he an idiotic smiling nodding dog like Bill Clinton. He is a real statesman, he is the real deal and I for one hope that he sweeps into the white house and makes some positive change.
America is a good nation with a lot of good people and they deserve a leader who will fly that flag as opposed to leaders who make her out to be an evil monster.

The woods are seething with the loonies preparing for another war of independence - sadly there's no more state's excercising that righteous doctrine of colour based oppression. Well, there's one place on the planet left, but I'm sure they're not going to convert!

My main beef is that Fox News (a station so witless and right wing that Geobbels would actually blush) actually had the gall to broadcast this kind of trash as news. Talk about a desperate message for the election.

And I never thought I'd see the day the KKK invaded the Scotsman website. Good on you, sunlight hurting your eyes boys? What's this drivel about defending a Republic? Does that include genocide or just the occasional lynching?

Much like Chamberlain prior to WWII, huh?

Obama is all flash and no substance and that has nothing to do with race. I'd support and vote for Colin Powell in a heartbeat as I would have for Barbara Jordon (A black woman representative to congress) many years ago.

You must also realise that all these so-called threats make for good publicity regarding Obama!

What you must not forget is that all three leading Presidential candidates had to appear in fornt of AIPAC and swear allegiance to Israel before they swore allegiance to the USA. They all had to pledge to defend Israel before they officially pledged under oath to defend the USA.

Aligned to all so-called anti-racist organisations(ephemistic jargon for organisations to generate anti-white race hate) is a lot of Jewish involvement!

Think about it!!!

"Is he or is he not the Democratic Presidential candidate?"

No, he's not. Neither Hillary not Obama won enough pledged delegates to win the nomination. It is unfortunately likely that Obama will end up being the nominee. The Democratic Party and Obama are doing everything they can to prevent Hillary's name from being placed in nomination and from having a roll-call vote, which is what has happened at the Democratic Party nominating convention for the last hundred years or so. Hillary's supporters are not expecting, demanding, something unusual.

As for America "burning", well the only burning going on is wildfires and they're under control at the moment. The only place I have read about this is here. These threats are not on mainstream blogs and are certainly not in the major media, either print or tv in the US.

Twistedly, you *want* Americans to be racist so you can sit around all day posting groundless nonsensical internet comments with no basis in reality.. while you hold skinhead marches and throw banana peels at athletes of African descent.

There *is* no more KKK (in the sense of a group that actually engages in violence against Americans of African descent). Gone, history. The "KKK" as it exists today is essentially a few old men who get together and sing "Dixie Land" and play Bingo (and no white hoods, either).

European/British sensationalist shock journalism at its most shameful.

Why don't you learn to read what's on the page and not what's ingrained in the forefront of your mind? Read my post #21 again and tell me where I said I "hate the Catholics". Selective imagination on your part. I condemned the "violent history" which you challenged me to.

My Catholic friends find your turn of phrase very amusing. Creepy, yes, but amusing. They too, condemn their church's violent history. Get the drift?

You refer to "[my] brand of hate" being ok and I am struggling to find where I might have posted this nugget of misinformation. I opened this post with ... "Why don't you learn to read ..." But you lazily interpret in a selective way. You also imply that I am one of those that "call the tune of diversity and racial amalgamation ..."

One poster called this article rubbish. I have to agree.

The Ku Klux Klan isn't an organization in the way we normally think of that term. The term is open domain, which means anybody can use it for any purpose. And most of the people who use that name today are in prison or have serious mental issues.

So who is the person they interviewed? It sounds to me as if he wants attention and is willing to do anything to get it. So he called himself the KKK and gave himself a fancy title. I've lived in the South for most of my life; my family is from here. And I've never met anyone in the Klan. There are only about five thousand people nationwide who identify as such.

I personally have white nationalist sympathies. And neither I, nor anybody else I know of with similar sympathies, wishes any bodily harm to Obama. Most of us oppose him because of his extreme leftwing views. As far as voting for blacks goes, many white nationalists would vote for, say, American black Thomas Sowell in a heartbeat were he to run.

Agree or disagree at you see fit. But it's a far cry from assassination or any kind of violence. Political assassinations are a very rare thing in the US. And we like it that way.

The truth is all too often a far cry from what we read in the media.

Senator Obama might consider adopting the Bush approach to choosing a running-mate as a means of ensuring his own personal security. When Daddy Bush chose the Über-hapless Dan Quayle as his running-mate, PRIVATE EYE ran a cover photo of Bush pointing to Quayle "No one's going to assassinate me with HIM next in line." Bush-the-son chose a much more threatening candidate for the Vice-Presidency, as reflected in the popular bumper sticker: SHOOT CHENEY FIRST. For Obama, the solution is obvious: Pick Hillary.

Dunnyveg (Comment 103) says of Obama: "Most of us oppose him because of his extreme left-wing views."

Any readers from outside the U.S., but from Europe in particular, need to have this description put in context. In truly free countries, the electorate has the choice of voting communist, socialist, capitalist, etc. Thus, someone with "extreme left-wing views" is probably a communist, possibly an extreme socialist. In the USA, however, neither socialists nor communists are permitted to run, as a practical matter, so the spectrum runs from what the rest of the world would call right wing, to very right-wing. Obama believes in capitalism, free trade, the individual right to bear arms (despite the language of the Second Amendment, which is one sentence long, and is about the need to maintain armed militias), the need to drill for more oil, and so on. In England, like most Democrats in the U.S., he would be a Conservative. In Texas, he is an extreme left-winger.

That should tell you something. Most Americans don't even know that communists can be democratically elected, and democratically thrown out, or that they are or have been members of coalition governments in several Western European countries. Kerala, in the West of India, has elected Communist governments, and thrown them out, several times.

The World Health Organization recently compared the quality of health care in 20 countries. Their findings, published last year, placed the USA 20th. The top countries, as usual, were those with socialized medicine - an "extreme left-wing" idea in the U.S., which spends twice as much, per capita, on health care, as any other country. For life expectancy, the USA now ranks 34th. I think that says it all. Obama's declared intention to take this country into the family of fully developed, civilized nations who distribute medical care on the basis of medical need, makes him an extreme left-winger.

Some of these comments I have read are wonderful however some of them have been a little misguided.

What I am most concerned about is that Fox News had the gaul(audacity) to do a live interview with the presiding leader of the Klu Klux Klan. Some people will say well he has the President of the NAACP in interviews, but the NAACP is not listed as a known U.S. terrorist organization, they are an advocate of peace and equality and help all minorities. As far as death threats to Obama, yes people are concerned about it but Obama gives people hope. As far as the big picture, if Obama chose to accept his nomination at an outdoor field that appears to be smaller, he knows what he is doing. I think the country would be truly hurt by an attempt to hurt or ---(I cant even say the word) him. I would be. I haven't been drinking any Obama juice but I have read up on the facts behind him and Mccain, and he is simply a better man for the job. No offense to other republicans here, but the good ole boy republicans are desperately trying to mislead the american people as they have always done. Bush drags our country down to its worst state since the great depression, and all people are worried about is the color of the next presidents skin??Get real. As far as those talking about their forefathers" and their "ancestral land" JUST WHO'S ANCESTRAL LAND ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? BECAUSE IT DIDNT BELONG TO EUROPE BEFORE IT WAS STOLEN. And no, no one alive today had anything to do with historical slavery, however many people alive today have benefited from slavery. America of course the richest (and poorest country) was built on the backs of slaves, the white house itself was build by slaves. I don't think you should be made to feel guilty or anything like that, but I do think that people should be aware of the facts, and take that into consideration and be "open" when dealing with people of other races. #112 continued.... We don't want anything for free, or to constantly remind White American's what they have'done' to us as a culture. I think mainly African Americans are frustrated by the lack of equality and want equality. More than the right to vote or the right to eat at any restaurant, but economic opportunities. A lot of these corporations that are now in place started during the 1800's (by white americans while blacks were still geting 'freed' from slavery), and have merged and merged and merged with other companies until now they monopolize the market, while African Americans are just now catching up, so to speak, and everyone else is sort of pigeonholed in glass ceiling businesses. And alot of them used products of African Americans that they either bought for pennies or stole think uncle bens rice or little richie's music. So I think when we say we want equality we mean something primarily along those lines.

I can't think of one African-American in the US today that has known the hopelessness of Slavery! #17 Jack Murtha has a very valid argument.

I, for one, find organizations like the KKK or any white supremicist organization repulsive, staffed by unintelligent morons, whose teststerone levels far exceed their IQ. They also cover their acts of depravity and arrogance with their own misguided brand of religious zeal, not realizing that to use God to cover their sin of hate, merely guarantees their place in Hell. How blind can man be? My answer! Very! When he justifies his ignorance with a lie. Perhaps these bigots should have lived during the time of their Fuhrer, so that they could have perished with him, instead of plaguing civilized people with their doctrine of hate.

Personally, I am diametrically opposed to OBAMA becoming the next president (temporary resident of the White House)! Yet, I am opposed to anyone claiming that they hold the right of life and death over anyone merely because of the pigmentation of his skin. Such men serve their father Satan!

I do not see my Lord Jesus Christ, if He was voting, casting a vote for Obama!

Your comment concerning your own personal interpretation of the 2nd Ammendment, and I quote:

"Obama believes in capitalism, free trade, the individual right to bear arms (despite the language of the Second Amendment, which is one sentence long, and is about the need to maintain armed militias)"

...is not in the least bit accurate. The United States Supreme Court, in a landmark case, recently affirmed that this law applies to all citizens, for it is common sense that all countries maintain a "militia" in the form of their military forces. This was the case when we run ur butts out of the US.

The inalienable right of all men to bear arms assures us, as US Citizens, that we can provide protection for our homes and families, not becoming subjagated to a despot ruler, like a King or Queen. We have not yet allowed our liberties to be arbitrarily abridged by surrendering our arms of protection like you all in the UK, but give these socialist politicians (democraps) time, they'll take away every liberty we have, unless America wakes up and rids ourselves of these left wing socialists.

As for his (Obama's) views concerning the right to bear arms, I would have to see just how true that is, for with Obama, he "flip flops" on every issue, it merely depends upon who or what special interest group he's talking to. So far, the only way that I have been able to tell when he's lying is when his lips are moving. A typical Democrap! No. I am not a Republicon!

Sorry for my error when I mentioned "kicked ur butts out of the US." I was so caught up in your comments that they sounded as though you are from England. In fact, I would have to say that you most likely are living in England and merely pose as an American. Your views certainly reflect a common English comment which I've heard many times on this forum.

Your comment that Obama is in favor of "free trade" was a real revelation to me! I can't think of any president or hopeful who is against free trade, can you? I can't think of any president or hopeful who is not a capitalist, can you? What you failed to mention is that Obama is a counterfeit Christian, the only Senator to publicly go on record as being in favor of infanticide. He's on record as being in favor of partial birth abortion, legitimizing homosexuality, raising taxes, negotiating with the terrorist organization that brought us 9-11, even though we have been negotiating with these terrorist factions since 1970, when Carter was President, but to no avail.

His position on a national health care program like the one in England or Canada, is nothing new. But allow me to ask you one question. Who is going to pay for this proposed National Health Care program? We are! The tax payers will absorb the costs in the billions of dollars. HOW? Through more and more taxes, thats how. We need to fix the major problems with our current health care system, which is rife with fraud, greed, and abuse. The root problem in our present health care programs is that doctors, hospitals, and clinics are driven by greed. Many doctors systematically defraud the insurance carriers by padding their bills. Hospitals pad their bills with impunity, often times billing for services not rendered, double billing, or by inflating their costs by 500 to 1000%. It's called Capitalism. When was it that my version of reality was discredited? I do not recall the occasions which you mention! Perhaps you can enlighten me?

As for predicting the horror that is too come, allow me to say that a child speaks of what he sees and hears from his father. I can but speak of that which my heavenly Father has revealed to me.

When I asked Him why there are those who will not beleive, HE stated that they love the darkness and will not come into the light. Hell was not created for mankind, but for Satan and his angels, But it enlarges itself daily to accomodate all of those poor souls who choose death and not life. It is because of the hardness of mens hearts that they chose to be blind to His mercies. For HE desires that none perish, but that all men acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of the Living God, and beleive in his heart that God raised Him from the dead.

You have eyes, but refuse to see. You have ears, but will not hear. Consider the changes in this world. Science has affirmed that there are more and more devastating earthquakes occuring now as opposed to those which occured over the past 200 years. That there is more catastrophic events occuring throughout the world than ever before, considering frequency of occurence, and severity. These events were prophesied over 2500 years ago and recorded in the Holy Bible.

You are carnal, but if you are to enter into heaven, you must be born of the Spirit and the water. You must be born again. For it is written; "The carnal man can not discern the things of God, for such things are Spiritually discerned."

My heavenly Father gave all men the right of free will and independant choice. It is your choice, beleive or deny that He is, that is your choice. Those who are cast into the bowels of hell chose their fate. A messenger is merely a messenger, he does not compose the message, he merely delivers it. In truth, even if God Himself spoke the truth to you, you would not beleive. You would reason that you were having a mental epiphany or halucinating. Even if Jesus Himself stood before you and told you the truth, you would doubtless scoff and claim He's an imposter and a liar.

But rest assured of one singular fact. You will, one day, bow down before HIM and confess that HE is the Son of the Living God. You will fear and tremble before HIM. For there have been many false messiahs, but there is but one who IS the Messiah, and that is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

No I don't think so. Hallucinations are evidently your speciality.

It's interesting how the news article was about a presidential candidate's life being threatened, and the dialogue that ensues is an argument about Jesus. Nice one. I don't know what Jesus would say to such a diversion - since there is nothing in the Bible about the U.S., the president, the KKK, abortion, or any of the afore-mentioned topics. In fact, I think he mostly talked about loving your neighbor. And there ain't much love I'm picking up on these posts. Or focus, for that matter.

This article points out something pretty terrifying - which is that we (U.S.) can't have a non-white candidate without fearing for their life. That's sad and scary and needs to be talked about. I'd like to read a real dialogue on that topic for a change.

One more thing - Barack Obama isn't a Muslim. He's a somewhat agnostic Christian from what I can tell by reading his book. Read "Dreams from My Father" and make your own assessment. If nothing else, it's a good read.

Have a good night, peace.

The dismissive tenor of your first paragraph sums you (and fellow ignorant Americans) up. The madness of what follows defies rationality.

For starters:

"But rest assured of one singular fact. You will, one day, bow down before HIM and confess that HE is the Son of the Living God. You will fear and tremble before HIM. For there have been many false messiahs, but there is but one who IS the Messiah, and that is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God."

That just about seals it for me. You are scarier and madder than the maddest fundamentalist Muslim. That takes some doing, believe me. That you actually believe that doggerel is a worry for the sane of the world around you.

Sorry, forgot this ... how many times do I have to tell you that Barack Obama's father is not called Lucifer, as you insist on implying? He is, to the best of my knowledge, called Barack Hussein Obama. I know of no Lucifer Obama being the dad of the Democratic presidential runner, but perhaps you can enlighten the stupid world I inhabit, and which you self-evidently do not.

*Please enter your comment*he's done so much in such a short amount of time, He seemed ambitious and intelligent. Apparently we overestimated him, the screams of his children and the Malloto pupulation of this great nation will advise the next radical more caution.
