A KNIFE-WIELDING thug was jailed for more than 17 years today for a string of gangland-style attacks in Edinburgh.
James Paxton, 23, carried out a frenzied machete assault under orders from James Demarco, a killer serving time in Saughton Prison.

Murderer Demarco, 18, was also jailed for a further 45 months after listening in to the attack and the victim's scr
eams over the phone.

He told Paxton to "stab f*** out" of the intended target because he had gone out with an ex-girlfriend – but he got the wrong man.

The victim, George Stewart, shared a nickname – G – with Demarco's intended target for the assault, the High Court in Edinburgh heard.

Paxton, who also carried out two other knife attacks within a month, was jailed for a total of 17 years and one month. He was also ordered to be kept under supervision for a further four years.

Lord Brailsford told Paxton said: "The circumstances of these offences are both wicked and depraved."

The judge told Demarco, who is currently serving at least 15 years for murder, that his latest sentence should start at the end of his minimum term.

Lord Brailsford told him: "You instigated Paxton to carry out the assault. It is clearly reprehensible conduct."

Demarco called the judge "a f*****g prick" as he was being led from the dock to start his latest jail term.

The court earlier heard that Paxton told Demarco during the recorded phone call that he would be joining him in jail and boasted he would come in "walking like John Wayne".

During the call Demarco was heard laughing and Paxton said: "I just sliced and diced with ma machete. I couldnae find ma sword or it was going right through him."

Demarco, who is currently in Polmont Young Offenders' Institution, earlier admitted instigating Paxton to commit the assault on September 23 last year.

Paxton, of Captains Drive, Gracemount, admitted assaulting Mr Stewart to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to the danger of his life.

Paxton also earlier admitted two further attacks when he appeared in the dock beside the smirking Demarco.

On September 16, he attacked a man on Observatory Drive, stabbing him repeatedly and spraying ammonia in his face. The victim suffered 22 wounds and also spent 80 days in a burns unit.

And on September 1 he repeatedly stabbed another man in Captains Drive, Gracemount.

A third accused, Kevin Gartland, 17, also of Captains Drive, admitted his part in the Observatory Drive attack, in which a second victim was also badly injured, and was detained for five years.

Absolutely right Foo, These are sub human specimens which have no place in our society. They contribute nothing to the world but misery. At least they could be humanely put down, not that they actually deserve it.

It's a pity that we cannot remove all transplantable organs from these low life and then let them die.
The organs could provide so much better use keeping a decent person alive.
However the solution in place at the moment is just as good. We pay thousand upon thousands to keep them (in relative comfort) and they learn nothing and reoffend when they get out.
We will ignore the victims family of course, they have to get on with their lives.
Still if there is a vote then these creeps would be saying goodbye to their organs if I got my way.

This sentence seems quite justified given the horrific nature of the attack(s).

Perhaps it is time to consider awarding life sentences(meaning the rest of the criminal's natural life) for all crimes involving weapons with a similar term to be served by those who would incite such a crime.

#5 James (1)

Yes James, that's avery tempting proposition/idea.

Unfortunately it seems that in some cases characteristics and traits from the donor can be passed on to the recipient. I don't know if you saw the BBC 'Horizon' programme about a year ago which was based on invetigations into such phenomena.

It doesn't look like these types have anything good about them which could be used to better the lot of society, so let's just settle for locking them up forever.

I can't imagine Mr Paxton will be quite so cockey once he is out of the Young Offenders unit and in with the big boys.

I'm normally a liberal wet who bangs on about preventing crime rather than the punishment but for these guys I'd make an exception and go along with #5 as well, after castrating them and giving them a damn good kicking.

Sorry but these two sub humans show no remorse or concern for there victims, stabbing someone 10 times is as good as attempted murder in my book, so he should get life, though in an ideal world the two of them should be hung from the nearest tree.

not very nice men (or are they?) so best place is locked up and key thrown away.

Others involved in Observatory I was under impression were not much better being from a rival gang.

We work hard to pay tax to keep these yobs......... and the ones not in jail on the dole..... what a world!

Well what can I say - this is totally expected from the youngsters of today - its because they have not been brought up properly. Lets not forget this is a generation that has been brought up without anyone being able to give them a thrashing for stepping out of order - and look how violent they are. Do-gooders say violence breeds violence - well howcome these young men are so violent? They were brought up without thrashings? Yes - do-gooders have failed miserably. Its about time hangings, the stocks, and the belt was brought back - its the only way to sort out the out of control youngsters of today. Do-gooders - hang your heads in shame because you are partly responsible for the actions of the monsters involved in this attack.

All too often there are young men convicted, not for stupid drunken spur-of-the-moment fights, bad enough, but deliberate and premeditated assaults (inadequate word). Remember the 5 in Reading who were thoughtful enough to take towels out with them to soak up the blood of their two girl victims during extended rape and torture, one of whom survived but with a bullet in her head? Could we have some background/investigative journalism to help us understand what's going so incredibly wrong with what presumably start out as normal babies yet turn into monsters. Merely continually reading depressingly similar factual reports turns us all into hand-wringing ghouls

Bring back the stocks and then hang them. 15 years for murder? What a joke our society is. I hope he gets a good shoeing inside, because hs paltry sentance isn't much of a deterrent.

In Yankee-land many males are named Marion, and some are named Beverly. We only call our females by these names. Different strokes for different folks!!
