HAVING not won on their league travels since September, Kilmarnock effected a comfortable victory over Hearts with goals from Grant Murray and Paul di Giacomo. The result confirmed that the hosts have gone a full season without defeating their Ayrshire counterparts for the first time since 1981/82.

That the match was played beneath storm clouds was rather appropriate for Stephen Frail's side. As the rain tumbled upon the Tynecastle surface, Hearts turned in a bleak performance whilst their visitors grew in strength to move ahead with 15 minutes remaining.

Di Giacomo's goal confirmed their ascendancy whilst also reiterating the surgery which must be performed on this Hearts team during the close season.

Frail refreshed his side by making five alterations from Monday evening's insipid defeat at Falkirk. Jose Goncalves, Ruben Palazuelos, Christophe Berra, Saulius Mikoliunas and Calum Elliot made way for Michael Stewart, Marius Zaliukas (pictured above), Lee Wallace, Fernando Screpis and Deividas Cesnauskis. In Berra's absence, Steve Banks wore the captain's armband.

Kilmarnock began fluently but initially lacked presence up front, the Spaniard David Fernandez their only attacking outlet in a 4-1-4-1 formation. Hearts fashioned the game's first opportunity on 18 minutes, when it took a last-second Simon Ford tackle to deny Eggert Jonsson inside the penalty area. Then, with the overhead thunder reaching deafening proportions, a penetrating run by Larry Kingston (pictured below) led to a looping drive just over Alan Combe's crossbar.

As the match progressed, the hosts were increasingly guilty of placing too much responsibility on Gary Glen's youthful shoulders. Some intricate midfield play involving Screpis, Stewart and Kingston often resulted in through balls which the 18-year-old was required to chase or hold up by himself. On one rare first-half occasion when a midfielder ran beyond the opposition defence, it was the impressive Screpis who collected Glen's pass but shot tamely at Combe with his weaker right foot.

Speculative efforts from Mehdi Taouil and Kingston soared over the respective crossbars early in the second half, and thereafter the overall listlessness continued until Murray's intervention. Fernandez swept a swirling corner-kick towards the near post and Murray rose above all to power the ball beyond the helpless Banks.

The goal imbued Kilmarnock with renewed vigour and they finished in commanding fashion when substitute Di Giacomo converted a second goal after Paul Dalglish had outwitted Wallace.

For Hearts, it was another afternoon when sub-standard became the only applicable adjective.

Hearts (4-4-1-1): Banks; Thomson, Karipidis, Zaliukas, Wallace; Jonsson, Stewart, Screpis, Cesnauskis; Kingston; Glen. Subs: Ridgers, Palazuelos, Goncalves, Mole 66 (for Stewart), Ivaskevicius 58 (for Jonsson), Rapnik, McGowan.

Kilmarnock (4-1-4-1): Combe; Murray, Lilley, Ford, Hay; Fowler; Dalglish, Hamill, Johnston, Taouil; Fernandez. Subs: Rascle, Locke 88 (for Taouil), Di Giacomo 72 (for Johnston), Flannigan, Cox 88 (for Fernandez), McInnes, Anson.

Attendance: 10,512.

Referee: Mike Tumilty.

Only read last few match reports as on extended African safari and beach holiday, reading reports from last few matches makes want to stay here for next season.

Read Frail thinks we will make progress next year but recent results, scraping 1-0 wins and losing against bottom 6 teams, don't give any optimism.

Will check during week to see if a new manager or more promises from Romanov.

Leave Tynecastle now. Glen is not a target man, high balls to him will never work. A 5 year old can work that out.

Frail proved today he is not the man for the job by not playing more of the youngsters. This was a nothing at stake game so he should have played McGowan or Rapnik from the start. Could not believe it when he brought on Mole and Ivaskevicius to try and change the game. If Zaliukas is there next season they will need to widen the pitch by at least 20 yards to allow his clearances to stay on the playing surface.
Massive clear out required.

Well m8, it looks increasingly like all the claims that you never actually attend games is right enough then.
Firstly, you didn't go today, and earlier this week you claimed that you'd "forgotten" that there was a game on (vs Falkirk), yet we have to read you droning on every single day about all things Hearts when you seem to have seen them about as often as a dry summer.
That would be fair enough, but spare us the allegedly expert view on everything coming out of Tynecastle. Keep golfing, duffers at Gorgie Road are not in short supply.

Lets begin by acknowledging that Kilmarnock were workmanlike and well served by a number of seasoned pros, some of whom were reared at Tynecastle.
The really shocking thing was that the Killie players looked fit and up for the game whereas Hearts resembled a collection of poorly motivated individuals with scant knowledge of the field positions they were meant to occupy;never mind about being aware of where their colleagues were.A terrible indictment of the management and coaching squad and a glaring example of the need for a leader on the park.It is no use mentioning players by name;but HOMFC are in deep, serious trouble.

End of the day sad to say Hibs have been he better of the capital teams this season. Would be a bit ironic if they got a result against the smeltic and hand the title to the other half of the dark side.
Saying that I hope the rangers win on Wednesday and see all the supporters waving the Saltire at the game

I would like to congrtulate Kilmarnock on a magnificent performance, however they are a below average team in a below average league which is fixed.....fixed rotten to the core and rigged in the favour of the old firm......the evening news are all monkeys, and will be given no interbiews next year when i bring the champions league to gorgie.

I can confirm that victor does not attend games, but i will post a copy of the many letters he has sent to me and also a copy of the restraining order also.

If anyone needs clarification on who he is he can be seen on any given saurday wearing his hearts tracksuit (season 1986) in the crazy putting in princes st gardens......

Although i believe he has bought a season ticket for next year, we know the names of all 7

The thinking was, we couldn't be worse than we were against Falkirk. This was a chance for the team to redeem itself, but lo and behold, we were every bit as bad.
Shaggy played his part of course, and I just hope he gets the dunt this time next week, because...he's clueless.
I will stick my neck out here and predict that he never makes it as a manager at this level.
Since he took "control" we may have grabbed a few more points than previously, but we have played the most awful style of football, and been subjected to pash about the greatness of Calamity Elliot.
The promise to have a new manager appointed, is the only way the club will recover from this most pitiful of seasons.
Shame on six or seven non performers today.
