Livingstone wins election backing

MORE than 100 artists, academics and politicians have given their backing to Ken Livingstone in the London mayoral election.
The group, including singer Billy Bragg, Labour peer and filmmaker Lord Puttnam and actor Tony Robinson, says that although Mr Livingstone is "not perfect", he is a "standard bearer for real progressive politics".

How is it news that Labour-supporting Billy Bragg, a Labour peer, and former Labour NEC member Tony Robinson are supporting Labour's candidate Ken Livingstone?

Indeed as far as I am aware they are all still members of the Labour party.

Surely only a news story if they had *not* been backing Ken Livingstone.
