WITH men in tuxedos, women in their best evening dresses and even a royal presence, it was the type of glamorous, high-profile event perfectly tailored to a suave super-spy.

Last night, film fans thronged Leicester Square for the royal premiere of the 22nd film in the James Bond franchise.

Daniel Craig, the 40-year-old star of Quantum of Solace, joined Princes William and Harry as well as stars of the new film for the premiere in London.

Craig was dressed in a black tuxedo and wore his right arm in a sling, following a shoulder operation.

The actor, who performs as many of his own stunts as possible, severed a fingertip and had to have eight stitches in his face after being accidentally kicked on the set of the film. Accompanied by his long-time partner, Satsuki Mitchell, Craig waved to the crowd and spent several minutes posing for pictures and signing autographs.

Dame Judi Dench, reprising her role for the sixth time as MI6 boss "M", also walked the red carpet. She turned in front of the cameras to reveal an "007" traced in glitter on the back of her neck.

The Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, as well as director Marc Forster, arrived to be greeted by an excited crowd.

The Ukranian-born actress Olga Kurylenko, 28, who plays Bond girl Camille, also attended the event.

Jack White, who performed the latest Bond song, Another Way to Die, with R&B star Alecia Keys, also donned a tuxedo for the occasion.

Princes William and Harry had asked for the premiere to be a charity gala to help support two causes, the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes. They met 200 invited servicemen, veterans and their families.

Reviews for the new film have so far mainly been positive, although Quantum of Solace is the shortest Bond movie to date, with a running time of one hour and 45 minutes.

It was shot on exotic locations, including Panama, Chile, Italy, Austria and Mexico. The high-octane action also sees rooftop chases, hand-to-hand combat and stunts involving bikes, boats, jets and cars.

As the film forms the jewel in the crown of the London Film Festival, ordinary fans had the chance to watch a public screening, shown minutes after the premiere ended.

Quantum of Solace – which takes its title from a short story in Bond creator Ian Fleming's 1960 anthology For Your Eyes Only – goes on general release in British cinemas tomorrow.

Italy and Austria are "exotic" locations? Hmm. Seems to me that the writer of this article is travel-challenged, no?

Austria is a damn sight more exotic than the bland USA thats why I choose to ski there.

Lynn, being from midwestern USA, I take it you've never been to either Austria or Italy. These are 2 wonderful, beautiful countries and a damned sight more exotic than Madison Wisconsin...and, yes I have been to all three!

Ys Gods! A celebrity by accident of birth! What next for "Wills?"

"I'm a royal - get me out of here?"

The so-called royal family are a bunch of parasitic freeloaders. They never miss a freebie...the sooner we abolish the monarchy the better for all concerned.
Two over privileged wastes of space turning up for a film premiere...and that allegedly constitutes news????

1. Tuxedos? Does she mean dinner jackets?

2. Daniel Craig joined the two princes at the premier? Should it not be they who joined Daniel Craig?

3. Junkets in South Africa? Premiers? Holidays every few weeks? Are these two really in the army? Do we still pay their salaries? Do other young officers get so much time off? How long are the media going to push these parasites at us?

I'm considering a career in the army as an officer - it seems you get a good salary, you get to go to film premieres, take part in charity bike rides across Africa, borrow helicopters for personal use and do very little actual service - at least that seems to be how it works for William and fitzHarry.

If they actually spent some time soldiering, I know there's security issues about that, but they could be put to better use that this, even if it is just peeling spuds.

If that happened I might have some respect for these two.

Waste of time mate. That pair of parasites wouldn't know what a spud looked like, other than a vaguely white thing that appears on their plates.

I agree with #17, i'm not sure if it is the Scotsman's intention to have small minded, ignorant and down right thick readers but if this website is anything to go by then thats what they have achieved. They should perhaps increase the size of the newspaper and place it well away from the Mail and the Star. When did we become a country of moaners? Utterly embarrassed.

Good! Who needs you here anyway, haggis-eater?

Many years ago, Jean-Claude Killy - the Olympic skiing medalist - was trying to ski Vail, Colorado - and could barely stand up in our beauiful, soft white powder - about waist deep. The ski instructor had to take this poor putz into the "back bowls" and teach him how to sit back so he wouldn't bury his tips and simply g-l-i-d-e downhill.

Your Pound Sterling vs. the USD would give you more value so you must not be terribly smart either. So YES, by all means, keep spending your money to ski in many parts of Austria, France and Italy where you get "hard packed snow" - or ice.

Over here, in almost ALL of Utah, a lot of Colorado and, say, Taos, New Mexico - we'll classically "schuss" our way downhill on some of the finest feathery snow on Earth ...

You? One less body in the lift lines ...

#19, very poetic. You forgot one very important fact, in Austria you do not need to mix with Americans (well not that many). Therefore everything is a little more quiet, initelligent, polite and slim.
Thanks Tom.

The regular posters, ie Charles Numbskull etc seem to dive on the News items at 1.00am with their neanderthal offerings and really seem to compete with Ross & Brand, although admittedly not (yet), quite so vulgar or depraved.

Nevertheless they bore the pants off most of the readers, hence the admirable comments of #17 & #18.

Do they really enjoy staying up all night with their puerile comments? Don't they have jobs or are they unemployable!!!
