IRAQ'S government has sacked 1,300 police and soldiers because of their failure to perform during fighting last month with Shia militia in the south of the country.
A spokesman for the interior ministry yesterday said more than 900 officers were sacked in Basra, where a crackdown on Shiite militia was launched that triggered Iraq's worst fighting since the first half of 2007. The rest were fired in the province of Wasit, where the fighting spread.

Iraqi officials have acknowledged that 1,000 soldiers refused to fight in the campaign, the biggest offensive yet led by Iraqi forces with little participation from allied troops.

Are you completely insane?? a step forward??
Thats a 1300 coalition trained fighting force pushed into the hands of the insurgency.
The fact that the coalition is training and arming their enemies just about sums up the stupidity of the entire conflict.
And the first step to combatting the corruption should be to kick Haliburton out and put their oil production out to tender.

It would assist the Israeli's I suppose. As 2 points out you have a trained body of men ready to join the insurgents, to keep the pot simmering for a little longer.
