AN IRANIAN businessman has been sentenced to death on charges of spying for Israel and targeting the Islamic republic's disputed nuclear programme and its military.
The Tehran court handed down its sentence at a time of high tension between Israel and Iran and speculation of a possible Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear installations.

Ali Ashtari, 43, said he had accepted a loan of $50,000 from Israeli agents as he had experienced financial trouble as the manager of a communication and security company. After confessing he appealed for clemency in court.

By sentencing him to death won't undo what he has done, and it won't stop the next one from trying. Money talks, and he did it for money, and so will the next one.

1,2 & 4: give Mr Ashtari a break, as he was probably tortured to make him confess. Iran is a religious kleptocracy, where a teenage girl was hanged in public. The question is: if it were ever to become necessary, would the world have enough neutron bombs to zap Iran, and how would it divide up the black stuff afterwards? And for those of you who condemned Sharon Stone's recent words, try to understand that a question is not an offense.
