Writer 'stable' after toxic mushrooms

THE author of the best-selling novel The Horse Whisperer was last night said to be in a "stable condition" after falling ill from eating poisonous mushrooms.
Nicholas Evans was staying with his wife Charlotte at her brother Sir Alastair Gordon Cumming's estate in Moray when they cooked and ate mushrooms picked in local woodland on 23 August.

The three of them and Sir Alastair's wife, Louisa, fell ill on Monday and are still being treated in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Mr Evans' literary agency, AP Watt, said the four had responded well to various forms of treatment.
