Crime reduced for second year running

THE overall level of crime in the North-east has fallen for the second year in succession while detection rates have soared to a new record, it was revealed yesterday.
The Grampian Police annual report, due to go before the Grampian Joint Police Board at its meeting in Aberdeen today, shows that the number of crimes recorded by the force last year fell by almost 14 per cent in the main crime categories, which include violence, indecency and dishonesty – 4,606 fewer crimes in the force area.

Over the same period the detection rate increased by 4.6 per cent to a new high of 36.6 per cent.
