BRITAIN will be the world's third-largest recipient of migrants over the next 40 years, according to a United Nations report published yesterday.
Despite the economic crisis, net immigration is expected to average 174,000 every year up to 2050 – higher than any other country except the United States and Canada.

The arrivals are predicted to swell the UK's population to 72 million by the middle of the century, overtaking Germany (70.5 million) as the biggest country in the European Union.

According to the figures, the US will be by far the biggest net recipient of immigrants between 2010 and 2050, at 1.1 million a year. Canada is set to welcome 214,000, ahead of the UK on 174,000.

Surprise surprise
If you were a poor peasant in India you'd do anything to get to the UK where health and welfare is 'free' compared with what you get in your home country.

As usual the real figure will be far below the actual figure; moreso, once Turkey is in the EU. But thankfully long before 2050 I shall be "kicking up the daises."

Article: "The arrivals are predicted to swell the UK's population to 72 million by the middle of the century"

Although this influx will affect many parts of Britain, the majority will settle in London and SE England -- the immigrant population of England exceeds the total population of Scotland. At present, some 40% of all ethnic minorities live in London, and more than 50% of London school-age children are from ethnic minorities.

Do you feel concerned by the staff shortages in the city’s Indian restaurants?
No, I don’t really like Indian food
Yes, I think it will mean a fall in quality
They’re businessmen, they’ll find a way around it.
