A PATIENT has died after contracting a highly virulent strain of the hospital superbug Clostridium difficile in Scotland, only the second time the strain, known as 027, has been found here. The strain, which caused most of the cases in an outbreak at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury in 2005, is becoming more common in several European countries.
Health Protection Scotland said the latest case was reported at a hospital in the West of Scotland.

The patient was admitted to intensive care but died.
