THE fight against hospital superbugs will be boosted by a £54 million investment by the Scottish Government.
Nicola Sturgeon, the health secretary, will today outline a new three-year spending plan to cut healthcare associated infections.

Ms Sturgeon will launch a pilot test of a new MRSA screening programme starting next year for patients going into hospital.

NHS boards will also be set a target of demonstrating at least 90 per cent "hand hygiene compliance" by this time next year.

I remember when they had one of the first Large hospital developments, was it at Dundee?
I believe the general opinion from the nurses was that they could not guarantee a high standard of cleanliness compared with a smaller unit. However who listens to nurses when you have Professors and the like who preached otherwise.

Is it really going to cost £54 million to ensure that all of our nurses and all of our doctors learn to wash their hands between patients? Or is is also going to include extra cleaning staff to make up for the ones that don't do their job properly?

As long as they spend the money on actually cleaning the wards and not on some bloody manager who will come up with another peice of useless beaurocracy.

Get the old matrons back on the wards that would sort it out and nurses uniforms get washed in house no taking them home, you arrive in civvies, get changed, go about your business and get changed before going home and visitors need to be educated.
Beds to be pulled out and cleaned every day, tops of curtains, more isolation wards, less tat hanging around beds, keep it clean, keep it simple, easy no problems, less managers more doctors and nurses.

It won't take £54m to keep grubby, nose-picking, bum and genital scratching kids out of the wards! Ban kids from hospitals ... except the ones they have to go into obviously! Filthy little bu&&ers! In fact, ban all visitors ... and you would solve at least 60% of the problem!

Employing proper cleaners and chastising doctors who don't wear scrubs and was hands after every patient would probably solve the other 40%!

£54m that's damned pricy soap!

Does it really cost that much to get staff to wash their hands and to use dettol and bleach when cleaning things?

Wash your hands, clean the wards twice a day, ask visitors to use face masks and put on plastic slippers over their shoes and waash their hands before entering a ward. Steam clean air conditioning ducts. Aye its rocket science I am away tae ask Matron and Mr Lister erene.
However pass go and collect £54m. More evidence of a dependancy handoot by a Scottish minister. Dinny tell them doon soouth about all this spending in case they twig it and want a "cash back" roll oot the barrell.

Nicola has made fantastic changes to the failed NHS system that the New Labour Numpties couldnt manage.

I remember 6 months ago when the sleazy New Labour Party condemned Nicolas plan to save A&E units. They screamed that so many Cancer Patients would have to go without treatment. Well if they were still in, yes their right it would have been a disaster. Nicola has achieved in 6 months what these Numptie Balloons could achieve in 8 years.

95% of Cancer Patients are now enjoying the ability to have seen a doctor and started treatment for their Cancer. My best goes out to them and I hope it results in many of them enjoying a longer life with their loved ones. ALL THE BEST IN THE FUTURE TO YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES. I really hope you all have a great new year.

Employ cleaners who can clean... pay them a decent wage too... I used to watch cleaners rush into my ward, wet the floor with a dirty mop, sometimes without the lights on.. the only "clean" of the day. Then rush off to their next port of call. No time for pride in doing their job properly..

#10.. tese changes have been years in planning and organisation, they don't happen overnight.. training/ recruiting staff, changing work practices whatever.. it has been like turning a tanker around.. not solved in a few months..

Get the kitchens to make yogurt in-house - instant immuno boost, and great for breakfast. Also, we SAVE money in the process. I'm not kidding.

54M = a total disgrace.
