Threat cancels city's fireworks

TRADITIONAL New Year's Eve fireworks in the centre of Brussels have been cancelled due to a terrorist threat to the Belgian capital.
A state of alert has been maintained since last week when police detained 14 people suspected of plotting to break an al-Qaeda prisoner out of jail.
