Published Date: 04 July 2008
VLADIMIR ROMANOV will interview at least one more managerial candidate next week after the Ugandan national coach Laszlo Csaba became the latest to claim an approach from Hearts.
The club's majority shareholder is anxious to appoint a new first-team figurehead but will speak to other contenders for the position after the weekend. He then hopes to reach a final decision and intends the new incumbent to be in place before the squad's tour of Germany, which begins on July 20.

With Stephen Frail seeking clarity on his future having been placed on gardening leave by senior management, Csaba has claimed he's had talks.

The 44-year-old Hungarian previously coached his own country and reputable club sides Ferencvaros and Borussia Monchengladbach. He will be best remembered by Hearts supporters as the man on the receiving end of John Robertson's infamous touchline kick at the end of a UEFA Cup match between Hearts and Ferencvaros in December 2004.

Csaba has not been formally offered the job but claims to have held productive discussions with Romanov. He stated that the approach from Tynecastle is "one of three good offers" he has received. "It's true the Hearts owner would like me to be his new coach," said Csaba.

"I know Mr Romanov very well and that he's had some problems recently with his coaches. But I've got a contract with Uganda until 2010 and I would like to go to the African Cup of Nations and maybe even the World Cup with this team.

"Still, anything can happen and if Hearts really like me they should speak next to the president at the Ugandan federation.

"In the last three weeks there have been approaches from a club side in South Africa and a European national team would also like me as coach, so Hearts is only one of three good offers I've received.

"But it would be a very good thing to work in the UK, which is respected as the home of football, and I know the SPL is a really good championship. I also enjoyed working at club level with Borussia Monchengladbach and Ferencvaros."

Meanwhile Ghanaian midfielder Larry Kingston, who reported for pre-season training yesterday after being on international duty last month, stressed that the Hearts players are willing to show commitment to whoever Romanov installs as manager.

"It is up to Mr Romanov to decide who he wants to bring in," said the midfielder. "He is the boss but we are ready to play for whoever that may be. The players have missed being around each other and we'll all be working hard together to be successful next season.

"The summer has been very busy for me as at the end of last season I reported for duty with the international team. We had four World Cup qualifiers to play and things went okay. We lost one and won three matches and we are still leading our group, which is good.

"I haven't had much of a break as the last game was on June 22 but I am used to that with international football. The new season is here now and I'm hoping to be free of injury and play week in, week out for Hearts. We must be looking to improve on last season which was no good at all for us.

"Hopefully this time everything will be better and that we can win something."

Gorgie Forever,

I don't think it really matters who the manager is. They would have to be something pretty special to turn a squad of largely mediocre players into a decent side. Unless Romanov puts his ego to one side then it will just be last season all over again (possibly even worse). I have no qualms appointing a manager we've never heard of if he is at least given the chance to run the show his way. If not then its back to square one, again.

#2 Quite correct sir.
As for the situation we are in regarding a manager, it looks like we are in that nervous period between the "flash and bang", if I might use Artillery parlance.
So once again we chew our nails, waiting to see if a candidate and Vlad can come together and agree on how the football side of the club should be run.
I ain't interested in anybody coming in and doing it Vlads way...because Romanovs way has failed us miserably.
Over to you Mr Romanov

6

Johnny Jambo,

#4 Scorchio, yes I agree with you on the playing side, however as I have said on a number of occasions I think he wants to get the finances stable before concentrating on getting the playiong side right, hence the signing of young players on long term contracts, reductions in wage bills etc.

I just think that he totally underestimated the task in hand.

If he concentrates on the finances and lets a new Manager concentrate on the team we would be OK I think, although my preference would be to have him out.

Can anyone enlighten us as to the current whereabouts of the fabled warchest? You know, the £10-20m cashpile lined up to help Hearts win the SPL title next season.

It's just that I haven't heard about it for a while, and I've had a horrible thought... do you think Vlad might have lost it?

Oh dear.

Cmon anderson reveal your mole, nowhere in the report does it say you had been told this by anyone at or involved with hearts and since Romanov wont talk to the media (or anyone else for that matter) where do you get your info from?? or is this just another made up story that you are so famous for!
10

Chas Niceass,

04/07/2008 12:26:35
I dont think quality wise they are mediocre. I think they lack leadership and motivation and probably a bit of energy.
Unfortunately these are all missing because Mr Romanov has messed so badly with the most important position in the club.
Good managers can look ordinary players look great, while great players can make good managers look awful.
For me its all down to man management with Hearts, there are still enough decent players to perform. We do however have problems particularly in the striking role.

14

Jamboy,

Edinburgh 04/07/2008 12:28:32
Okay here is my stance.

I have decried the shambles that we have become for about a year now and I am still very bitter about many things he has done to this club of ours.

My biggest worry is the info from the Rober interview about a set percentage of our players having to come through the Kaunas and Ripo programme.

If we must have a few of these guys in the squad then why the hell did we not just give Velicka, Chesny and Zaliukas contracts and let them compete for starting positions against products of our youth system and players identified by a combination of the new coach and Vlad's scouting system?

However... I have suffered the pre-season from hell and all i want to do now is watch a Hearts team with a manager at the helm, properly trained, fit and able players playing for the jersey and a bit more common sense from Vlad.

As gutted about the apparent methods we are about to employ in the coming seasons I will as always be right behind my club and offer all the support I can...

My expectations have been reeled in somewhat now but with any luck then Vlad and the new boss will reach a compromise and we will at the very least have a fit and well drilled squad of players who are not allowed to slack of without repercussions.
15

The Gorgie Boys Are In Town,

04/07/2008 12:28:53
And Vlad informed Bazza of these nuggets of information regarding timebable and future interviews i guess.
Heard the interview with Laszlo on talk 107 and sounded like he has what it takes to handle the job. Get him in pronto and let him get on with it so we can get back to the football at last.
16

Chas Niceass,

04/07/2008 12:28:59

Indy,

Your cloning is because of the spaces in your pseudo.

This method has been employed by Sergina (notable by her absence since we found out about her wedding plans) in the past and when the same thing happened to me I just changed my pseudo thereby meaning that any future cloning would have to be done with a mis-spelling (1's or !'s instead of i's or l's etc) which once identified is easy to recognise and therefore ignore.

Change your pseudo to one without a space in the title and she will have try harder.

My own feelings on vlad will never change however i do believe he is in it for the longterm and as has been said before "missread" the whole situation when he arrived and is now having to trim things back till we are back on more of an even keel.

My main concern now (apart from the manager situation) is with him wanting to feed us with players from the his other clubs with a view to selling them on thus getting maximum profit for kauno/ripo with nowt comeing to hearts.

I have heard that there will be transfer budget of around £10 m. but the player clear out has to be completed first. All the highly paid players are either being binned or forced to have wage cuts. Which all makes sense as the club moves to cut the wages to income ratio.
29

Hey, I was repeatedly berated for refusing to believe that all the Craig Gordon money (plus an unidentified extra sweetener) would be handed to the new "British-style" manager to rip up the SPL.

I was forced to admit that I had no proof that Vlad wasn't planning to spend £15m on Hearts this summer (proving a negative is always tricky) and so, suitably chastened, I sat back to await developments.

The lack of the warchest leads me to believe that lots of posters on here talk absolute pants.

HEADLINE
Romanov to interview one more before Hearts boss named

FIRST LINE OF report
VLADIMIR ROMANOV will interview AT LEAST one more managerial candidate next week

Which is it..... Is he going to interview one more before naming a new boss or is he going to interview more than one more? Given that he hasnt named a boss yet I would certainly hope he was going to interview at least one.

To the ed:- Please please please feel free to start writing articles with news in them!!!! If Hearts wont tell you anything....dont write about them.

Alright MTG,

Hear hear! My cheif concern and something that people are far too quick to overlook.

We are nowhere near good enough to carry players and if guys like Miko keep better players out the team again this season then we will have dressingroom dischord all over again.

We have not sold one product of the Kauno/Ripo youth sytem on for decent profit yet (for Hearts anyway) and unless he buys a small team in Brasil or another country with a history of producing quality young players then this millstone round our necks will continue to hold us back.

I agrre with you about the finances, if he is trying to sort this out then it can only be a good thing, but why can't he just say this? My biggest problem with the club and the moment is that it reeks of mistrust, lies and false promises. I feel like they are trying to deceive the fans at every available opportunity. If they would just give some honest answers, even if they are not what we really want to hear I think it would be better than waiting on events that will never materialise.

Apart from Mark Mcghee, no one else quoted by either the press or Romanov comes close to being the manager that Hearts need. Forget all these TURKEYS Vlad and do what you should of done years ago and apologise to John Robertson and offer him the job. He is a Jambo thru and thru and knows the Scottish game. He left before without getting the chance to show what he could do. Choose this option Mr Romanov or sell up.

I dont personally comment on any of the threads on JKB as i can see that anyone who raises negative comments seems to get shot down or accused of being a hobo and i dont feel many positives about hearts at the moment so there is no point in commenting BUT if there is anyone here who would like to ask the "voice of the fans" people (you know the ones who got a free trip to lithuania) if they could ask Vlad when they next partake in one of his "look at me i am god" trips. Who is footing the bill for all these numpties being shipped over and trained at riccarton?

Lenny, the cyber Easter ROAD bunny is too busy just now trying desperately to convince you hobo's that you are something more than a mid-table SPL team with little to no ambition. I assume it is because Hearts are statistically the far FAR superior side that so many of you sad, pathetic losers feel the need to come onto a Hearts thread and beast yourselves while posting sad, petty comments. Comments which honestly come across as if you are trying to make yourselves feel better.

Sure, things are far from great right now but I have no doubt whatsoever that in time, things will improve and we will again regularly play on the european stage. Not the inter-tattie cup for desperado mid-table teams but UEFA and CL qualifiers as in RECENT years.

So, this isn't a post to rile you, upset you or to engage in some big team wee team banter which i've never been into...

It's simply to say that you have my pity. I feel sorry for you and while I don't understand your pain having never been in your shoes, I do feel for you.

There again, it could be because you know your teams more entertaining ie to laugh at, and you dont like us Hibby's enjoying that too much. That would make you rather mean spirited and lacking insight.

I think it was the reference to statistical/historical superiority that nailed he diagnosis.

#62 Clery, in an ideal world it would be ok. Highly dubious if the geezer would get to operate unhindered, thus negating the pluses of having a decent scottish manager?

i don't think the nationality of the manager is all that important, more so that he can:

1. communicate with the players effectively.
2. adapts to and learns about the scottish game.
3. be effective despite the restrictions which will undoubtedly be on him.

OH DEAR
68

InsideOutside,

04/07/2008 14:15:06
Lenny, many thanks for your response, I was so glad you took the trouble. I accept your point about 4 league titles. Winning two of ours in the 19th century is akin to last winning the Scottish Cup in 1902 don't you think. My comment you picked up on was more related to recent history, ie. our performance over the last 20 years or so. With such a rational mind, you at least must agree that in that context, Hearts were far FAR superior?

#63, Stevie...

To answer your honest (??) question with an honest response...Vlad is a f*cking nightmare when it comes to picking the team and make no mistake, this is no conspiracy theory. It is abundantly clear that the man has more than a single hand in the team sheet on a Saturday afternoon. That is an absolute disgrace and the number one reason I have not renewed for the first time in over 15 years. I have watched some sh1te Hearts teams over the years but always, ALWAYS the best team on the day in the eyes of the man who was training with them, working with them throughout the week. As stated before, I will NEVER walk away from Hearts but I will pay for each game I go to when I want to go. Not pay £425 up front for Vlad to decide to sell our ONLY decent striker at a time when we needed him most.

I will finish this unusually lengthy post by saying that the Old Firm are absolute scum, a disgrace to Scotland and how ironic it is that while the lovely city of Belfast is moving on into the 21st century our very own City of the Great Unwashed, where children run bare-foot in the street and sport socks can be procured in pairs for a pound, is still living some time around 1690. Excuse the rant, I got home from London late last night after spending dinner last night convincing colleagues that not all Scots were mindless bigots and sectarian filth.

#67 MTG, that's actually good news right enough. amidst all the hellishly barmy things that go on, there is the occasional thing done right. jose away on loan to nuremburg but tied up for a further 2 years, makes sense because either nuremburg or someone else may want to buy him. he has limited value right now because he was in the final year of his contract, now he has more value.

in saying all that, i'm not sure if he's signed to us or still registered to cow'n'ass.

Being truthful mate, I would say over the last 20 years you have been superior but I would drop the 'far'. And I base this purely on League positions as we have both only won 2 cups each in this period.

However, for many of those years you were spending outwith your means and are really seeing the knock on affects now.

If you can keep your head while others all around you are losing theirs, then you've truly misunderstood the situation.

I'm not so sure that you will be playing UEFA or CL any time soon, cos your lot are totally goosed.

Never mind what's happened in the past, it's today and tomorrow that matter. And that's a fact.

Come on Vic they know more about our players registration than the SFA, infact some hobo's know more about Hearts than actual Hearts fans, now what does that tell.

We know you all really want to be Jambo's.

#72, agree to drop the far. We were spending outwith our means but if Romanov didn't have the self-destruct gene and had kept Burley on would it not have been worth it? We'll never know.

#73, I disagree. We are currently fecked but as I am sure you witnessed, one minute riding (relatively) high and the next down in the bottom six. Who's to say that next season (not THIS season!) we won't be splitting the old firm again........YOU? Based on what since you are so up on your facts?

Lenny - Take European competitions, just how many times in the last 20 years have Hibs been in Europe, and I'm not talking about interdodo that doesn't count. Can you tell us how many games ot even tie you played in Europe, I think then the use of Far Far superiour is justified.

#77 interested bystander, how do you come by the cow'n'ass statement then?

if i saw a car crash in the street, i would be an interested bystander. is some geezer said to me "dunno if the driver is alive or deid mate", that would not lead me to state "he's deid".

normal people would normally try to find oot if the boy was deid before saying he was deid.

strange analogy i know, but hopefully people will know what i mean.

Although there is no prizes for second plave in anything, you could also ask, how many times have Hibs finnished 2nd (Runners up) compared to Hearts in the last 20 years? and how many cup finals they have actually played in. As well as the old how manye times have Hibs managed that once in a blue moon feat of finnishing above us. Then we can go into average attendance figures and season ticket sales etc etc.

In the last 20 years Hibs fall behind Hearts in every category, except of course clearing the debt...the only thinh Hibs have over us, they have managed to clear their debt.....or have they? Wasn't the financing supposed to be in place already for the new stand? Why ask the fans to buy a brick? why for the last 18 months after all the income that Hibs have made is there actually still a debt at all?....If they don't go ahead with a buy a brick scheme does this mean having to borrow money (Meaning debt going up) to build their stand?

#78,

Ahhhh Bublin, how is that "really well paid job" you have, in Dublin as well. Jeezo, your parents must be proud. I wondered how long it would take for you to join us. Sitting there behind your screen resisting the temptation to jump in. Not long.

As for my 'brand' of humour. If your available i'm on at the festival this year for 2 weeks. The show is titled, "Oh to, oh to be, oh to be envious of a superior team". Why not come along, I could send you with a couple of tickets for you and your boyfriend. Just send your mates to my seat in Wheatfield F and I'll hand them the tickets. No need to say thanks.

Good point. With all that money coming in the door courtesy of the Old Firm buying Hibs FC (or all of Hibs FC that was worth anything) where has it gone. Why 'buy a brick' if the funding was/is in place.

Serious question all you Hibs/Hearts fans on here, where is the cash? Mr Petrie's secret stash...

I don't have the foggiest idea as I DON'T FOLLOW YOUR TEAM NOR CARE ABOUT WHAT IT DOES.

Rolland,

You really have to feel bigger than Hibs dont you? Its like you cant function properly until you assure yourself Hearts are the big team.

Do you really want to talk about Euro Competition?

European Cup: Hibs best - Semi final, Hearts ?

UEFA / Fairs Cup Hibs best - Semi Final, Hearts Qtr Final

Cup Winners Cup - Hibs best Qtr Final, Hearts ?

Hibs have also played more games in Europe than Hearts. I fully expect you to retord with the old 'you were invited' re the European Cup. I dont care. The Fact is Hibs have got further in EVERY SINGLE European Comp than Hearts. That is Fact, not disputable in the slightest.

As for seeing to my clients, the only seeing to they get is quality service when I send Dell/RM/Stone/HP/IBM back to the dark ages with technology that would make you eyes water. Similar to what you experience while getting pumped up the Council gritter by your Thai boyfriend.

Have a great weekend folks.

Guys they are buying a brick cause they a brickin it.

Despite all our troubles they are seriously worried about the lack of fresh talent coming through the ranks and of course they can only buy complete and utter tosh, so they are running scared at the thought of the humpings they will get from us this season, despite our troubles we all know we will indeed be finishing about them such is the course of nature.

Don't tell me Lenny is still displaying his hangup about hearts being the big team.

I asked him during the week why he feels obliged to put it in every post. I also asked him why he feels so upset considering hearts compared to hibs have:
1. A BIGGER fanbase
2. A BIGGER ground
3. A BIGGER ST list
4. Their average league placing over the last 30 years is BETTER
5. Even a BIGGER debt and squad

The reply was grabled

No I was just reply to Roland.

And when did you ask me anything? Dont recall that in the slightest.

Bigger fanbase I will give you. Only just though, lets see what its like in a cpl years. (Hibs have the highest average crowd over a season)

Bigger stadium. Yes but Just. But we have the better stadium.

Bigger Season ticket list. Yes
