SWINE flu fears have forced one of Scotland's top schools to send home a third of its pupils and some members of staff, it was revealed last night.
More than 160 pupils and seven teachers at Kirkcudbright Academy in Dumfries and Galloway have been sent home after displaying symptoms authorities fear may be the result of swine flu.

Dr David Breen, consultant in public health medicine, said: "We are confident all appropriate measures have been taken by GP colleagues, the academy, education department staff and NHS public health teams."

The outbreak comes after official figures released yesterday showed that the number of people contracting swine flu in Scotland had dropped in the last week to 17,487.

But health secretary Nicola Sturgeon warned the figures could change: "We must prepare for an almost continual rise in cases throughout winter."

Better safe than to be sorry, non the doubt we will witness more of this before the Winter is out, when we are at our most vulnerable to infection.

Same here, seems to be schools that are the main incubators. Local kids here caught it on a trip to Brussels.

Sending home only a proportion of the inmates seems a bit daft though. Unless of course they are pretty confident it is only flu hysteria which is probably commoner than the bug it self.

Can I mention the 60+ dead in the Ukraine, all schools and cinemas shut, borders with Russia and Slovakia "tightened," WHO team investigating or will that get this thread pulled?

The UK media behaves as though it has received official guidance on what to report regarding flu.

#2 Flu will kill people - it always has - there is little evidence to suggest that the swine flu is turning out to be as bad as the experts feared it could be BUT at least we have prepared properly for it...Any evidence for this "muzzling" of hte press??

Funny that the "experts" think that climate change is overhyped and swine flu is under-hyped - or are they just being contrary?
