A GROUP supporting sufferers of ME has launched a new website in response to what it says are the growing number of people in the Lothians suffering the illness.
Known as Edmesh, the organisation was recently awarded £6000 of Lottery funding to help provide advice and up-to-date information on the debilitating condition.

Once dismissed by sceptics, ME causes exhaustion and is thought to affect around 2000 people in Edinburgh.

Emma Gillon, a member of Edmesh, said: “It’s time to take ME seriously. This condition has been ignored by health professionals for too long. We have no ongoing support at all.

“We are told to pace ourselves and sent home. It’s unbelievable to be so neglected in the 21st century.”

The website, www.edmesh.org.uk, goes live today to mark ME awareness day and will feature forums allowing members to contact each other.

The group says 75 per cent of people with ME are too ill to attend their GP’s surgery and experience severe pain.

I am concerned that this article labels ME with Exhaustion. We all have that! My son almost 18 year shas been ill for 2 years with ME and he has fatigue, joint pain so much so that he is almost house bound as he cannot walk for long distances, sleep disturbance, tremors, body temperature disturbance, headaches and many more. This condition has ben recognised as a physical medical ilness and the media have to recognise that. we have been living through a nightmare scenario these last 2 years and having had a service with RHSC we are now destined for an uncertain future within adult services. It's not just about exhaustion.......

Many of these ME sufferers suffer from Clinical Depression but are to 'ashamed' to admit it.
ME is simply a 'yuppy' name for depression.

not even going to argue with you on that. we have lived with this condition these past 2 years so know that is more than depression. don't judge until you've "walked in someone's shoes"
