HYPERACTIVE young girls are more likely to have abusive relationships, smoking addiction and a lack of job prospects later in life, according to new research.
The study, led by University College London and the University of Montreal, also showed that hyperactivity combined with aggressive behaviour in girls as young as six may lead to teenage pregnancies and dependence on welfare.
The report, published in this month's edition of Archives of General Psychiatry,
found young girls displaying hyperactive behaviour – such as restlessness, jumping up and down and fidgeting – have a high risk in adulthood of developing addiction to smoking, mutually and psychologically abusive relationships with partners and low educational attainment.
