GUIDE dog puppies Murphy and Mags take time off from training to play with their owner John Howie.

The trio – and fully trained guide dog Justin – were out to enjoy the Guide Dogs for the Blind Open Day at the weekend.

The national charity costs £1 million a week to run but is vital for so many people who are blind or severely visually impaired.

It depends on volunteers for many things from fund-raising to campaigning.

The charity has also been appealing for people in Edinburgh and the Lothians to become puppy walkers.

Volunteers are needed to care for pups from six weeks to around 14 months.

So cute, so adorable, and SO INTELLIGENT.

I have seen guide dogs being trained in Ottawa and most of them are Labrador Retrievers or German Shepherds.

I own a BEAUTIFUL black Labrador Retriever (how Canadian) named Chester and he is the envy of the neighbourhood by his majestic deameanour and friendliness and INTELLIGENCE.

Need I add that he takes after me - most dogs emulate their masters.

Labs are #7 on the dog intelligence scale and Chester proves it every day by anticipating my every wish and whim.

I just applied to be a puppy walker and can't wait. It is like dog ownership with such a reward at the end of it, knowing the dog you have cared for will make such a difference in the life of someone.
