BANK bosses were today urged to produce special notes to mark the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Labour MSP Margaret Curran has written to the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Bank of Scotland and the Clydesdale Bank urging them to consider the issue.

A commemorative bank note will be an "appropriate way" to celebrate the sporting event, she said.

Ms Curran, the MSP for Glasgow Baillieston, said a competition could be held for schoolchildren in the east end of the city to come up with a design for a Commonwealth Games banknote.

In her letter, Ms Curran wrote that having a commemorative note will "contribute to the tangible legacy of the Games, and the process of designing and producing the note would raise the profile of the Games and the banks involved".

She added: "I propose a competition to sketch the design for the banknote inviting all schoolchildren from the east end of Glasgow to participate. This would engage more young people with the Games as well as publicising the Games, Glasgow and Scottish banks.

"Of course when it comes to manufacturing the banknotes, professional Scottish artists could develop the designs of the notes that Scottish banks can be proud of for years to come."

I think it is a bit sad that an MSP has nothing better to do than campaign for pretty pictures on a bank note ....

Don't they have more important things to do ?

Probably not ....

On the contrary Voldemort, that's a brilliant idea.

Let's not follow the unionist path and knock every idea just because it isn't our.

This is an excellent idea and should be given backing. As a Nat I'm delighted to say, well done Margaret Curran.
