ACCORDING to a triumphant CBI, in its February 2008 Industrial Trends Survey: "Manufacturers are enjoying the longest run of sustained demand for 12 years, bucking the slowdown in other parts of the economy."
Even at the time, this sounded suspiciously as if the CBI was talking up the economy in the face of mounting evidence that rising input costs were eating away at the UK manufacturing sector from within.
