GEORGE Galloway, the Scots-born MP, has been criticised by the broadcasting watchdog for using his position as a radio presenter to promote his own candidacy in a parliamentary seat.
The Respect politician announced on talkSPORT that he intended to stand in the next general election in the London constituency of Poplar and Limehouse. During the August broadcast, Mr Galloway made derogatory comments about the existing constituency Labour MP, Jim Fitzpatrick.

But watchdog Ofcom said: "This was a serious breach of the code where a sitting MP used his position as a presenter on a radio station to promote his own possible candidacy."

Keren, It's time,

Independence and nothing less will do!! 20/11/2007 01:50:23

What is wrong with that?

The Evening News allow Margo McNumpty to use her column in their paper to puff up her chances of continuing as an 'Independent' MSP every chance they get!!

Double stanrds from the J Press yet again!!

#1 Not Really, and if you are comparing Margo with George you are even more deluded than normal.

Margo did her bit in the past for the cause of Independance for her Scotland. She did her bit despite the rubbish media like this paper served up to discredit her. She has still got lots to give her country, and although there is still resentment there she is a commited politician who puts Scots first. It would be nice to see her back in the fold of a party she did so much for.

#5 For once I am in total agreement with you. The man is a vainglorious self-seeker who has fooled far too many with his antics.

Also the only man in the UK to publicly encourage people to kill his countrymen.

From what I have heard most of those on the left who you would expect to sympathise with him can't stand his guts.

That says it all.

#7 I don't think it was just gorgeous I remember a few others as well ! However, for his brauva performance at the Senate Hearings alone I salute his indefatagability. His talk show is also hilarious at times.

Personal comments such as seen here do nothing but show the immaturity of those who would rather attack the personality of someone who is against the war crimes committed by the UK than the war crimes themselves.

Petty little people.

Anyone who has not yet found a good enough reason to look on Galloway with contempt should read about his escapades with War on Want.

After that I doubt if you would p1ss on him if he was on fire.

Legally this is a matter for the elections commission or local equivalent regarding rules of "equal time", if he offered and provided equal time to his competing candidates in his riding for each party there could be no question of an ethical violation.
As the situation now stands there is the APPEARANCE of an ethical violation since he has privileged access to a media source denied his competitors.
The legal and regulatory situation will have to be consulted since there may NOT BE an ethical REQUIREMENT only a suggestion or recommendation. It may be all that can be required is a polite suggestion that he cease and desist. A successfull rebuttel might come in the form of letters of decline of offers of scheduled time for his opponents, if they have merely declined the offer of air-time that can be argued that if they choose to not take advantage of a service it is their right to decline and their competitors are not bound to it. This is unlikely but A GREAT DEAL of research not yet performed must be done to confirm this and verify the credibility of his competitors (Sour grapes and all that.). We don't know the whole story and he does deserve to be considered, like any citizen, innocent until proofed guilty of an offence, if there is such an offence on the books.
I'm personally of the opinion that he should have been initiating requests for impeachment of the MPs alleged against in the originating incident instead of garnering political points for the appearance of a fight won. He got points no doubt, but lots more could have been won by seeing those MPs he accused thrown out of office in disgrace. A lot of work to do but I think he's got the skill and work ethic to do it.
Cheers

George Foulkes – he’d have the best grasp of the big student issues
George Galloway – whatever he does it’ll be entertaining
