Published Date: 29 August 2007
THE lawyer for the disgraced rock star Gary Glitter has said he is hopeful his client will be released from jail in Vietnam on child sex-abuse charges early next month.
Le Than Kinh said yesterday that Glitter, 62, had served two-thirds of his sentence and been a well-behaved and popular prisoner. His second appeal is timed to coincide with Vietnam's independence day on 2 September.

In an earlier appeal, Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had his three-year sentence cut by three months.

"I am hopeful. I believe punishment has now been sufficient. My client has expressed a wish to return home. I do not expect to get a result until 10 September," said the lawyer.

If released, Gadd is expected to fly back to Britain with a British police escort.

No charges are pending in the UK.

Conan,

I believe punishment has now been sufficient. Hardly. Anyway, I'm sure that once he's got the money for the book, the DVD, the movie rights, etc. it will all seem worthwhile.

Incidently, if he really does want to 'come home' why is the taxpayer paying for a couple of cops to go get him?

If he's not on the perverts register for his previous activities in the YUK, then he should be put on it now.

I thought he was dead already. Wasn't this his second offense (or maybe even third)?

#3 American. He was caught before, with lots of child pornography pictures on his computer.

#1 Conan, I think I read somewhere some time back that he's to face charges in this country though it doesn't say so here.

This man and his dreadful behaviour, ought to be locked up. It makes my blood boil, that still in the U.S. before and during sports, i.e. when a goal is scored during a hockey game, they play snippets of his tunes, for which presumably he receives royalties.
I have written before regarding this, when I lived in the states. If there happens to be someone reading this that knows anybody in sports, who can stop this, please do, or give me the info. or name of someone to write to again.

Hello, hello, I'm back again! It's a pity we don't still send miscreants such as this into permanent exile.

I had never heard of Mr Glitter before moving to the UK and I doubt very many other Americans have either! ##12##: I agree with your sentiments but what can you do?

Exactly #14,MissPixie - this is the problem, my American husband was not aware either. I have written to ESPN. When in the states, I had to mute the sound, during these 'interludes' and sad to see that all the spectators participate, a vast majority children.

I heard that Gary Glitter once annoyed somebody on a beach whilst sunbathing: he was in their sun.
