LOOKING BACK, SOME OF MY best chess results often occurred after I had done particular preparation. In many cases, this involved reading books in which the authors truly succeeded in filling me with inspiration.
I am currently enjoying a gem from Batsford Chess, by American GM Andrew Soltis. The Wisest Things Ever Said About Chess contains around 300 extremely useful sayings, related to actual positions from practical play. Below are my favourite exam...
