LORRY drivers who flout bans on crossing the Forth Road Bridge during strong winds could be fined, The Scotsman has learned.
The move is being considered by bridge officials who said the problem had increased since barriers were removed with the abolition of tolls in February.
The Forth Estuary Transport Authority (Feta) is considering a range of measures, including "enforcement to deal with residual offenders".
A Feta spokesman said fines would act as a deterrent. "It is something we would like to be able to do," he said. "We are having to turn back more lorries than ever before."
