THE world's biggest fish farmer, Marine Harvest, said a fish disease had hit one of its Scottish units, having a "marginal effect" on harvest volumes for 2008.
The Norwegian firm said fish at one of its units, operated by its Lighthouse Caledonia arm, had been struck down by proliferative gill disease.
Around 150 tonnes of the fish were affected, said Marine Harvest. It added that it had no indication fish at any of its other sites had been affected.
The firm plans to list Lighthouse Caledonia, which has 41 sites in Scotland, as a separate company on Oslo's Axess junior stock exchange.
