Published Date: 04 November 2006
THE Civil Aviation Authority today warned people about the dangers of setting off fireworks near airports.
Since 2000, the organisation has received 23 reports from UK pilots who have been unexpectedly dazzled by fireworks, while four British aircraft have been directly hit - one in 2002, one in 2002, and two in 2003.

Earlier this year, a 20-year-old man was convicted after setting off a number of fireworks in his garden under the flight path approach to Edinburgh Airport, and received a prison sentence.

Organisers of major public events featuring fireworks, lasers or searchlights must contact the CAA with details of their display so that pilots flying over the area can be made aware of the potential risks.

bang the fireworks altogether. Airports shouldn't receive priviliged exclusion zones - fireworks are a danger & nuisance to everyone.

Its ok to have low flying aircraft coming over the Saughton area night and day through out the year but the kids cant see fireworks let off. If we bang them together as Paul wants wont that make even more noise ?

Wouldnt it be great if we could employ at this time of year some of the aircraft thats used to fight fires as shown on tv. Send one up and deliver several thousand gallons of the River Forth on to their bonefires , fireworks and cheap beer!.......might dampen their spirits

I have had enough of explosive devices. Parliament should do something about them.
