NINE demonstrators were arrested yesterday during a protest by school teachers at the Faslane naval base.
Six women and three men were detained in the peaceful demonstration at the home of Britain's fleet of Trident nuclear submarines.

The demonstration by teachers was the latest protest of Faslane 365, a year-long blockade of the site.

The Fly Fifer #1 - For once I agree with you. They have broken the law and at the same time brought the teaching profession into disrepute. They should be sacked as they are clearly unfit to teach.

We have to put this in perspective, these people are protesting peacefully against weapons which have the power to destroy the Earth.
Personally I don't think that's a bad message to send out to the next generation.
Good on them I say, where would we be without those brave enough to protest against some of the establishment's decisions?

GD 34 - Peaceful protest are as you suggest are quite legitimate and should be accepted. However given that a number were arrested this suggests that they over-stepped the mark in some way therefore brought the value of their protests down.

Teachers should be setting examples to others, especially children. Getting arrested hardly sets a good example.

Methalions #6 - Never been there, no intention of ever being there either. Trident, couldn't care less because it is there to stay for the foreseeable future whatever the protestors say or want.

I agree that sometimes action/reactions can be provoked (you say by macho police and I won't argue with that), but to be arrested the protestors must have in some way reacted, i.e ...."they overstepped the mark in some way."

I still think there are ways and means of making your point without being arrested. Legitimate protest is correct.

As teachers they are in part responsible for setting examples to our children. How do you expect the children to grow up as well balanced individuals if they see there teachers being arrested? Great example they set.

How did they ever get to be teachers in the first place? Something wrong somewhere.

Margaret L #8 - Why should there be something wrong. We don't know anything about them really such as when they were appointed, etc.

As I have said in my earlier posts legitimate peaceful demonstrations are acceptable and are part of our right to free speech.

I really don't see why you can/should criticise the appointment process.

Will this lot never go away? It's time to recognise that the only way to influence such issues is via parliament.
The policing costs of this must be astronomical - and for what exactly?
