ANTI-NUCLEAR protesters were arrested yesterday during an early-morning blockade at the Faslane naval base.
The demonstration by members of the Trident Ploughshares group began at 7am as activists chained themselves together at entrances to the Clyde base, home of the Trident missile system. A main route to the base, the A814, was blocked.

Strathclyde Police said there had been 21 arrests.

Firstly, that road is closed more times for flooding than protesters, and given what I se of the situation, the police would be better employed trying to arrest the rain.
I drove past one morning and seen around 40 uniformed officers, together with the hired minibuses they travel in protecting the base from - 4 elderly ladies sitting in the middle of a roundabout knitting.
Another day the same presence protected us from around 4-5 protestors, one dressed as a giant rabbit.
Cost - £1.7m per day.
