Health fears block Leith Docks leisure plans

PLEASURE boats, house boats and canoes will remain banned from Leith Docks when a massive area regeneration is completed.
A blueprint for 16,000 new homes at the docks was submitted to the council last year. Community groups had hoped the docks could be used for water-based leisure activities and approached the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.

But Simon Pallant, senior planning officer, replied: "Data for the Water of Leith indicated elevated bacterial levels. These would arise from the operation of sewer overflows. Hence Sepa could not endorse water-based activities, where this would give rise to ingestion of water."

Community groups actually think there are people out there who would want to berth their houseboats in Leith?
My cruiser will remain berthed at Port Edgar, safe from chavs and forraging, feral neds!

Is this the same SEPA who recently said that there was no environmental impact from the tons of untreated Edinburgh poo discharged into the Forth from a 2 km pipe, after another failure at Seafield Treatment Works? Surely not!

Does that mean in years to come that the "Regenerated" area of Leith will become a stinking slum ?
Should all this not have been spoken about before the ridiculous project was allowed to go ahead. !!
