BBC viewers were left scratching their heads last night when they tuned into the station's flagship Scottish news programme to be faced with a series of reports about London.
Reporting Scotland was forced off air for 20 minutes after staff had to be evacuated in a fire scare.

Viewers were treated to local London news including a feature on a Lucian Freud exhibition in the English capital as workers were forced to leave the company's new £129 million building in Glasgow.

The 30-minute programme, which normally airs from 6.30pm, eventually started 20 minutes later at 6.50pm when staff returned.

Presenter Jackie Bird told viewers: "I apologise for the truncated broadcast. It was for reasons outwith our control."

And how much interesting it was too! Instead of the drearyness of politics that very few people really are interested in.

Just underlines the contempt the EBC has for Scottish matters. Given what has been spent at Pacific Quay, why is there no fall back facility - I'll wager there is in London for London news.

2" yes a cartoon comes on in London as back up instead of showing Reporting Scotland so as not to make everyone miserable :)

It would have made more sense if we had BBC North east or borders at least it would been better than the EBC. Didnt see an explaination when i switched on at 630pm.

Did you seriously expect an explanation?

The place may have been burning down around them for gods sake! They had better things to do than get an announcer to state why the teuchter news wasn't on.

The fall back position could have been Queen St Edinburgh
but they sold that, so what else can you do, if you lack
foresight. Notice they couldn't even give a full explanation upon their return, how is it every time there is a problem, it is always reasons beyond their control, it's just as easy to say we had a fire alarm, but were back now and everybodys OK.
