The commercial success of Play appeared to knock the wee man off his stride for the best part of 10 years. Oscillating between live guitar and vocals to wilful electro experimentation, it was as if he had deliberately eschewed the joyous rave of his early career and the sample-heavy grooves of his greatest success.
Last Night returns to the rave, given it is a homage to New York's clubbing era, hence the Donna Summer flavours of 'Live For Tomorrow', the Italian house shriek of 'Everyday It's 1989', or the cute piano riff of 'I Love To Move In Here'. Even better is the second half's chill-out zone.
