SOME of the biggest mysteries in the universe are to be discussed at a lecture in Edinburgh.
The free event, organised by the Royal Society of Edinburgh, will look at some of the puzzles which scientists hope will be answered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the most powerful particle collider ever built, which will start operation near Geneva, Switzerland, this summer.

It will attempt to explore the origins of the universe, and research physicist Professor Fabiola Gianotti will be discussing how it will work and what answers it might provide.

The free event is being held on Monday, May 12, at the Royal Society of Edinburgh on George Street and starts at 5.30pm.
