A 184-year-old Edinburgh school officially welcomed girls into its senior school today for the first time.
The Edinburgh Academy announced in 2006 that it would become fully co-educational, starting with the junior school last August and then the senior school from today.
The school's Henderson Row campus required development in order for it to fully provide for girls at all stages, with £5 million invested in buildings and facilities at the junior and senior campuses.
Chairman of the court of directors, Simon Mackintosh, said: "
We welcome all our new pupils – girls and boys – confident that the academy will give them all an outstanding chance of developing to their full individual potential."
