CLIMATE change campaigners were marking "Fossil Fool's Day" today with a series of protests.
Student group People and Planet were building a power station with 12ft cooling towers in Parliament Square.

And activists posing as Porsche executives were delivering a mock apology to an audience of protesting "polar bears" outside the luxury car firm's main London showroom.

This charade just goes to show how little these fools know about a simple thing like a cooling tower---and we are expected to take them seriously on the complex subject of climate??? Don't make me laugh.

Anyone who has the tiniest bit of knowledge about cooling towers would know that they are exactly what it says on the tin---COOLING towers. Their purpose is to cool steam and convert it back to liquid water. Sometimes, a little water vapour comes out of the top of them. They do not discharge CO2, CO, SO2 or anything else---especially not "carbon".

These people are like something out of a Monty Python sketch. When are they going to re-enact the battle of Pearl Harbour on a muddy field, using handbags?

Well done to these protesters. Keep up the good work. The message that we need to get out of fossil fuels and into renewables is spreading, and this sort of educational protest is a vital start.

Fuelhead, they know that cooling towers are for cooling steam.

One of the problems is that in doing so they waste so much energy that conventional power stations operate at as low as 35% efficiency.

CHP plants in Europe are operating at up to 95% efficiency, making massive reductions in the amount of carbon pollution emitted.

"...making massive reductions in the amount of carbon pollution emitted."

So a massive reduction of nothing amounts to??

Power stations do not emit carbon in the first place.

I know that power stations that use cooling towers are inefficient compared to more modern ones---in the same way that conventional central heating boilers are inefficient compared to combis.

My point is that I have often seen the images of these cooling towers being used to depict pollution or "carbon emissions". Such is the wont of the head-up-the-ar*e brigade. I have no reason to believe that this demo would be any different.

I agree that we need to find alternative sources of energy to gas, oil and coal. Why do people insist on dressing that simple fact up in all this rubbish about carbon emissions and global warming?

This problem is not going to be solved by protests. All that will do is result in further restrictive legislation and higher fuel charges which will affect us all adversly. The issue will ONLY be addressed by research and development, science and engineering. Nothing else.

"This problem is not going to be solved by protests."

says you...

"All that will do is result in further restrictive legislation and higher fuel charges which will affect us all adversly."

how will protests do that exactly?

"The issue will ONLY be addressed by research and development, science and engineering. Nothing else."

hmmm... they might address it a bit quicker if the public once informed press them to... also, besides research and development, science and engineering we realistically need to decrease our energy consumption... and thats something people need to be told about before they realizzzze that they need to do it...

Manmade climate change is a lie.

The optimum CO2 for our planet is about 10 times today's level!

Global warming or global freezing (depends on the latest fashion) is all about taxing ordinary people and keeping them down.

Climate change activists are complete bottom holes.
