IT IS the exam season, a time of bliss when classroom contact with upper-school students is much reduced, thus Sir is able to step outside the hamster wheel that is teaching Higher and Standard Grade courses.



Unfortunately, my happiness was shattered when my 17-year-old daughter uttered the words that every father dreads: "Dad, I have been accepted by Dundee Art School."

Naturally, I tried to hide my pain by grinning like Carol Smillie on crack...
