ANIMAL keepers will encourage Edinburgh Zoo visitors to try a giant leapfrog game this week.
The event is being held to mark this year's European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) campaign, The Year of the Frog.

Up to half of all amphibian species are threatened by habitat loss, climate change and pollution, although the most serious threat is deadly chytrid fungus.

Since it was discovered less than a decade ago, dozens of frog species have completely vanished. The fungus can kill 80 per cent of amphibians in an area in months, meaning mass extinction.

Funds raised by the EAZA will help support the Amphibian Ark conservation programme and regional initiatives such as rescues, training workshops and cooperatively managed centres.

The giant leapfrog fundraiser will be held on the Oasis Lawn of Edinburgh Zoo on Thursday, starting at 11am.
