PREPARATION work for the closure of Princes Street to all traffic for seven months next year as part of the city's tram project is under way.
Work has started to move pedestrian crossings on George Street ahead of a diversion programme which will see buses, bikes and taxis diverted on to George Street during work on Princes Street.

Pedestrian access to Princes Street will be unaffected during the work, which is expected to start in January next year.

Tram firm TIE has still to make a final decision on whether statues of George IV and William Pitt will have to be moved.

TIE really do crack on with the work once they get started don't they. Which just proves that they realy do mean all those posters that apoligise for any inconvenience caused.

Staff on this tram related work hardly seem to bristle with activity, unless it's to do with their mobile phone or wolfing in to another fish supper. The days of 6 guys watching one guy using a shovel are alive and well on Leith Walk!

I've been driving buses in and around Edinburgh for over twenty years, one good thing to happen for public transport in Edinburgh was the introduction of bus lanes, traffic free routes directly into the heart of the city... Oh! then someone suggested to allow parking in them. duh! Now we've got the work under way for the trams, now I've spoken to quite a few of my passengers and I've still to find someone who actually wants the trams, everyone gives me the same answer, what a waste of public money, I couldn't agree more!
