Big fall in vice girl complaints

POLICE say they have seen a sharp fall in the number of calls about prostitutes operating in an area of the Capital.

Officers say they received just three calls on the issue from residents in and around Salamander Street and Leith Links in the past month.

It is thought the drop is the result of an increased police presence and a crackdown on kerb crawlers.

Community beat officer PC Lee Jack said the relatively low number of calls followed on from previous months when the number had fallen.

But he said there were still a handful of women working in the Seafield Road area.

Politicians and community leaders have long complained about the problem of street prostitution and kerb crawlers in the area.
