A COMMUNITY council has welcomed a decision to withdraw a controversial planning application.
West Pilton West Granton Community Council had objected to the proposed construction of 1500 houses on West Shore Road, saying it would create more traffic problems and add too much density to the area.

Community council secretary George Taylor said the organisation wanted to work closely with National Grid if it decided to resubmit at a later date.

He said: "We are delighted that the application has been withdrawn. We are not against the building of new homes but we were very worried about the sheer scale of this development and the effect it would have on the area.

"We said from the outset that we wanted to work with National Grid Property and we hope that, if and when a new application is submitted, the company will talk to us."

What do you think of Microsoft’s vision for the future of Edinburgh?
It looks fun. Let’s put them in charge
It’s good if it gets us talking about the future
It’s clearly nonsense and it’ll never happen
