RUBBISH collections should continue to operate as normal the council said today, despite industrial action by the city's bin men.
The council said night-time collections would continue as normal, with daytime collections and trade waste picked up on the next available collection if missed.

The update was published after it emerged that council refuse workers had last week begun working to rule in protest over proposals to cut their pay.

It is understood the move could see refuse collectors on a wage of around £230 a week lose around half of the £120 they receive in bonuses – around £3,000 a year.

One bin man who contacted the Evening News said his wage would be slashed from £242 to £170 a week.

A council spokeswoman said the proposed cuts are among a series of modernisation measures which are currently being considered by the council.

The rubbish is all over Robertson Avenue already!! Nice to see the council is more worried about what the dear old tourists think rather than the residents who actually pay council tax! I can see both sides of the argument but who in their right mind agree upto a 3 grand loss in wages?

Been waiting 3 weeks for our bins to be collected, we're up to date with council tax payments so what's the problem? Phoned council today to be told they'd make a note to see if the binmen could collect our streets bins, but would send refuse round to collect overspill from bins, but not bin bags. How about if we all just "overspilled" our bins to see how quickly the council would react, or better still, stop paying the council tax for the services we're no longer getting!
