LEGENDARY Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen is the latest big name announced for this year's Castle Concerts series.
The melancholic star, famous for such hits as Suzanne and Hallelujah, will make his first Scottish appearance in 28 years on July 16 – a few days before cheery girl group Girls Aloud. The other acts booked this year are Boyzone, the Proclaimers and Runrig.

Mark Mackie, director of Regular Music and Castle Concerts, said: "If you ask anyone in the music industry, everyone tips their hat to Leonard Cohen – he is up there as a god."

Tickets for the 73-year-old star's concert at the Castle go on sale on Friday.

Leonard Cohen is an enigma even in Canada and I just cannot "get into" his melodic and poetic "schtick".

He is a VERY acquired taste.
